Ouran Highschool Host Club Hikaru And Kaoru

Okay, let's talk about the twins. Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin, from Ouran High School Host Club. Everyone loves them, right?

They're mischievous. They're kinda edgy. They have that whole "forbidden love" thing going on. But, hear me out.

Unpopular Opinion Time

I think… I think they're a little overrated. There, I said it! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy their scenes. But are they the best characters? I'm not so sure.

Their main gag is the whole "which one is which" routine. It was funny at first. But after a while? It feels a bit repetitive. Just me?

The "Twin Telepathy" Thing

They're supposed to have this deep, unspoken connection. They finish each other's sentences. They know what the other is thinking. Spooky!

But, honestly, it's played for laughs more than anything. It's less psychic bond, more practiced routine. Like a really good improv act, you know?

Hikaru's "Development"

The anime focuses a bit on Hikaru's crush on Haruhi. This is supposed to show his "development." He's becoming his own person! Or something.

But does he really change all that much? I’m not convinced. He's still mostly defined by being one half of the twins.

Maybe that's the point. Maybe they're supposed to be inseparable. But it does feel a little… limiting, character-wise.

Kaoru, the Underdog

Poor Kaoru! He always seems to be in Hikaru's shadow. He’s often portrayed as the "nicer" twin. Which kind of makes him the "less interesting" one.

I wish they'd explored Kaoru's personality a bit more. He deserved his own arc! Let him shine outside of the twin dynamic!

The Charm, Though

Okay, I'm being a bit harsh. I admit it. They do have their charm. Their playful teasing is entertaining. Their loyalty to each other is sweet.

And their shared backstory is genuinely interesting. The loneliness and isolation they felt before meeting Haruhi? That’s compelling stuff.

But, I still think there were missed opportunities. They could have been so much more! Maybe the manga goes deeper? I don't know.

The Fan Service

Let's be real. A lot of their popularity comes from the fan service. The winking, the teasing, the BL undertones... It's all there.

And there's nothing wrong with that! But it does sometimes overshadow their actual characters. Flashy packaging, maybe not as much substance?

Final Thoughts

So, yeah. That’s my slightly controversial take on the Hitachiin twins. They're enjoyable. They're entertaining. They're… a little overrated.

Don’t @ me! I still like them. Just not as much as everyone else seems to.
