Origin Spirits Of The Past Full Movie

Okay, let's talk about Origin: Spirits of the Past. Remember that one? The anime movie with all the trees? Yeah, THAT one.
I'm just gonna say it. And prepare for some serious backlash. I think it’s...fine. Just...fine.
Gorgeous, but...
Visually, it's stunning. Seriously, the animation is breathtaking. Those glowing, overgrown forests? Pure eye candy.
Must Read
But let's be honest. Does pretty animation automatically make a movie a masterpiece? Unpopular opinion: nope!
Plot Thickens...or Does It?
The story involves a future where forests have taken over. And, of course, there's a chosen one. Sound familiar?
Our hero, Agito, gets mixed up in some ancient technology. He awakens a girl, Toola, who's key to saving...something. The Earth? Humanity? I honestly get a little lost.

Now, I'm not saying the plot is bad. It’s just...forgettable. Like that time you tried kombucha. You remember trying it, but not why, or if it was actually good.
Characters We Barely Know
Agito is your standard determined protagonist. He cares. He fights. He probably has a tragic backstory involving a puppy. Okay, I made that last part up.
Toola is...a girl out of time. She's supposed to be wise, but mostly she just looks confused. I feel you, Toola. I feel you.
And then there's Shunak, who adds another layer of confusion. Is he good? Is he bad? Who even cares?

The Environmental Message
Okay, the movie's got a message about environmentalism. Trees good, humans bad, something like that. It’s definitely got a point.
But it feels a little heavy-handed, doesn't it? Like being lectured by your eco-conscious aunt at Thanksgiving dinner.
We get it. We should recycle. Stop yelling at me with glowing trees!
My "Controversial" Take
I think Origin: Spirits of the Past is...competent. It looks great. The voice acting is decent. The music is lovely.

But it doesn’t stick with you. After watching it, I felt nothing special. The plot is kind of predictable. And the characters are somewhat bland.
It's like eating a perfectly average sandwich. Nothing wrong with it. But you're not going to write home about it. I guess I did though.
Am I Missing Something?
Maybe I'm just not deep enough to appreciate its profound environmental message. Perhaps I'm too cynical to be moved by the plight of futuristic tree people.
Or maybe, just maybe, it's a slightly overrated anime movie that looks really, really pretty. Okay, I said it again.

So, please, don't @ me! This is just one person's humble (and possibly incorrect) opinion. But what are your thoughts? I am curious.
Final Thoughts
Look, I'm not trying to trash Origin: Spirits of the Past. I respect the effort that went into it. And I admit, those glowing trees are really something.
But I think the movie is pretty good on the surface. Sadly, it lacks that certain je ne sais quoi. You know? Something that makes it truly great.
Maybe it's the story, maybe it's the characters, maybe it's just me. Whatever it is, Origin remains on my anime list. I'll just stick with my usual go-tos for now.
