Only Murders In The Building Episode 7 Review

Okay, folks, let's talk about Only Murders In The Building, episode 7. Specifically, let's talk about whether or not I was a little underwhelmed. Don't hate me! I still love the show.
It's like that favorite ice cream flavor. You devour it every time. But sometimes, one scoop isn't quite as amazing as the others. Is that a crime? I don't think so.
A Flashback Fiasco?
This episode centered a lot around Loretta Durkin's past. We got flashbacks! We saw her struggling to make it as an actress. A classic "struggling artist" tale.
Must Read
But honestly? Did we really need it? I'm not entirely convinced. Maybe I'm just impatient and wanted more present-day mystery.
Like, come on, the present is where the murder happened! Give me more clues! Give me more suspects behaving suspiciously!
The Ted Lasso Connection (Kind Of)
The whole subplot with her history with Dickie was...fine. It's building to something, I assume. We’re supposed to believe Dickie is very important.

Maybe I'm just missing something. Or maybe it's because I spend too much time thinking about Ted Lasso, and seeing Jeremy Swift (Higgins from Ted Lasso) playing Dickie kept distracting me!
Every time he was on screen, I expected him to launch into a heartfelt speech about teamwork. Wrong show, self!
Oliver's Woes and Mabel's Intuition
I did enjoy Oliver's awkward attempts at directing. That was genuinely funny. Martin Short is a treasure, always.
His over-the-top theatrics are always a comedic highlight. Especially when they backfire spectacularly. More Oliver awkwardness, please!

And Mabel continues to be the smartest one of the bunch. Her instincts are usually spot on. Always trust Mabel.
She just knows when something is fishy. She’s the reason the trio ever gets anywhere!
My Unpopular Opinion (Brace Yourselves)
Okay, here it comes. The episode felt like filler. There! I said it! Don't throw your Arconia-shaped throw pillows at me.

It wasn’t bad. It just felt…slow. Like we were treading water before the big finale.
Maybe the writers needed a breather episode. Even the best shows have them. It just stood out because Only Murders is usually so sharp and engaging.
I expect to be on the edge of my seat! I expect twists and turns galore! This episode felt a bit too…predictable.
I still suspect everyone. Except maybe Howard. He’s too busy worrying about his cats.

Still Hooked, Though!
Despite my little grumbles, I'm still totally invested. I need to know who killed Ben Glenroy. I simply must!
The Arconia is a breeding ground for secrets and lies. And I’m here for all of it. Even the slightly less-than-amazing episodes.
So bring on the next episode! Hopefully, it'll be a knockout. I'm ready for the Only Murders In The Building team to prove me wrong. In fact, I'm hoping for it!
Because let's be honest, a slightly disappointing episode of Only Murders is still better than most shows on TV. Let’s see what happens next.
