Only Fools And Horses Hole In One

Only Fools And Horses Hole In One

Okay, here's a confession. Something I need to get off my chest about Only Fools and Horses. It involves golf.

Specifically, it involves "Hole in One." You know, the episode where Del Boy tries to become a golf pro? Maybe an unpopular opinion is coming...

The Episode in Question

We all remember it. Del, Rodney, and Boycie attempting to con their way onto the green. Classic Only Fools stuff.

Del thinks he's a natural. Rodney's... well, Rodney. And Boycie is, as always, dripping in dodgy deals.

A Controversial Opinion?

But here's the thing. I think "Hole in One" is overrated.

Don't get me wrong, it has its moments. Some genuinely laugh-out-loud scenes. But, overall, it just doesn't hit the same comedic heights as some of the other episodes.

Think about "Miami Twice," "The Jolly Boys' Outing," or "Time on Our Hands." Those are gold! "Hole in One?" Just... silver, at best. In my humble opinion.

What's Missing?

Maybe it's the plot. It feels a bit thin, doesn't it?

The golf club setting, while amusing, doesn't quite capture the grimy charm of Nelson Mandela House. I prefer the Trotters in their natural habitat. Peckham!

Or maybe it's the lack of a truly memorable supporting character. Where's Trigger? Where's Uncle Albert?

Boycie is great, of course. But he's not enough to elevate the episode to legendary status. More Trigger please!

The Jokes... Are They Good Enough?

The jokes are fine. But they don't have that zing of some of the other episodes. No instant classics.

No lines that you find yourself repeating years later. I can't think of any good jokes.

Maybe the slapstick is a bit too over-the-top? I prefer the more subtle, character-driven humor. You know, like Del's constant malapropisms.

I Still Love Only Fools and Horses!

Look, I'm not saying "Hole in One" is terrible. It's still Only Fools and Horses. Even a mediocre episode is better than most comedies on TV.

It's just... not a top-tier episode. It's a perfectly watchable, enjoyable half-hour. It isn't the funniest episode, though!

It's like that one song on your favorite album that you always skip. You don't hate it. But you'd rather listen to the other tracks.

Final Thoughts

So, there you have it. My controversial opinion about "Hole in One." I'm prepared for the backlash.

Feel free to disagree. Let me know which episodes you think are underrated and overrated. I'm always up for a good debate about Del Boy and the gang.

Just don't tell me I'm completely wrong. Because, deep down, I know I'm right (maybe). Cushty!

And remember, he who dares, wins! Unless they're playing golf, apparently.
