Once Upon A Time In Lingjian Mountain Anime

Okay, let's talk about Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain. You know, that anime that's kinda... weird?
Is It Just Me...?
I feel like it's a show that people either adore or just completely don't get. There's no in-between. And honestly, I'm leaning towards the "don't get" side.
The Hype vs. Reality
I went in expecting some epic xianxia adventure. I imagined cool sword fights and breathtaking scenery. What I got was... something else entirely.
Must Read
Don't get me wrong, the animation is decent. The characters are... well, they're characters. But the humor? It's a bit too much, even for me.
It tries so hard to be funny that it sometimes misses the mark. I’m all for some good slapstick, but this feels forced.
The Humor: Hit or Miss?
Maybe it's a cultural thing I’m missing? I've seen other anime with similar styles. But Lingjian Mountain's jokes just don't land with me. Maybe I’m too old.
It relies heavily on breaking the fourth wall and making self-aware jokes. The main character, Wang Lu, is basically a walking meme.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it's just cringey. I feel like it's trying too hard to be meta.
Plot? What Plot?
Is there even a plot? Or is it just a series of random, comedic events strung together? I honestly struggle to remember the main storyline sometimes.
It starts off with the protagonist joining the Lingjian Sect. Then things get... chaotic. Very chaotic.
Mysteries are hinted at, but quickly forgotten. New characters appear and disappear. My head hurts just thinking about it.

Unpopular Opinion Time!
Alright, here comes the controversial part. I think Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain is overrated. GASP!
I know, I know. Some people think it's a comedic masterpiece. They praise its originality and unique style. I respect that, I truly do.
But for me, it just falls flat. I find myself forcing a laugh more than actually enjoying it.
The Characters: Love 'Em or Hate 'Em?
Wang Lu, the main character, is supposed to be clever and witty. Sometimes he comes across as annoying and arrogant.

Wang Wu, his master, is even weirder. She's supposed to be a powerful and eccentric cultivator. She mostly acts like a lunatic.
The supporting cast is just as bizarre. It’s a wild ride for sure, but I'm not sure if I want to be on it.
So, Should You Watch It?
If you're into anime that's completely off-the-wall and doesn't take itself seriously, then maybe. Give it a shot!
But if you're expecting a serious xianxia story with compelling characters and a coherent plot, you might be disappointed. Be warned.

Ultimately, it all comes down to personal taste. I just happen to think there are better anime out there. Don't hate me!
Maybe I’m just missing something crucial. Maybe one day I’ll rewatch it and suddenly “get it”. But until then, Lingjian Mountain remains a head-scratcher for me.
And that's okay! We can't all love the same things, right?
