New Episodes What We Do In The Shadows

Okay, hear me out. New episodes of What We Do in the Shadows are here. And, well, I have some thoughts. Thoughts I suspect might be…controversial.

The Bar is High, Okay?

This show is comedy gold. Like, pure, unadulterated vampire-based hilarity. Season after season, it's been a consistent source of belly laughs.

So, naturally, expectations are through the roof. We're talking stratosphere levels of anticipation.

Are the Jokes Too Absurd Now?

Don't get me wrong, I love weird. But sometimes, I wonder if the show is trying a little too hard to be bizarre. Remember the singing big mouth bass?

It feels like they're aiming for "random = funny" a bit too often. Maybe I'm just old, though. Maybe I'm just missing the vampire equivalent of dad jokes.

Or, and this is a serious possibility, my brain has been softened by too much reality TV.

Nadja Needs More Screentime

Nadja, played by the brilliant Natasia Demetriou, is a comedic force of nature. Her deadpan delivery slays. Literally, she could probably slay me with just a look.

But lately, she feels a little…underutilized? I need more Nadja in my life. The world needs more Nadja in its life.

Seriously, petition to give Nadja her own spin-off where she just roasts everyone she meets. Who's with me?

Guillermo's Journey: Slow Burn or Stalling?

We've all been waiting for Guillermo to embrace his Van Helsing destiny. He is played by Harvey Guillén after all.

It feels like we've been waiting for centuries for him to get his dues. The slow burn is getting less "slow burn" and more "glacial pace."

Is anyone else starting to feel like Guillermo's storyline is stuck in perpetual sidekick mode? Maybe it's time for him to actually, you know, hunt some vampires.

The Colin Robinson Enigma

Colin Robinson, the energy vampire played by Mark Proksch, is a marvel. He's boringly hilarious. It's a talent.

But, with the ever-changing nature of Colin Robinson, it gets hard to predict him.

His transformations keep the show fresh but also make him a tough character to emotionally invest in. I still want to see the old Colin Robinson, I guess.

Is It Still Worth Watching? (Duh!)

Of course it is! I'm complaining, but I'm still watching every episode the second it drops. It is still one of the funniest show on TV.

The writing is sharp, the cast is phenomenal, and the concept is endlessly entertaining. Even if some of the jokes fall flat, there are still plenty that land with a stake-through-the-heart precision.

What We Do in the Shadows still holds a special place in my heart (which, coincidentally, is probably full of bat guano).

Final Verdict: Still Biting, Just Maybe Not As Hard

So, yeah, maybe the new episodes aren't perfect. But what is? I am probably just being a picky vampire.

It’s still a show that consistently makes me laugh out loud. A show with excellent performances by Kayvan Novak as Nandor as well.

So, grab your garlic, settle in, and prepare to be mildly amused (and maybe even horrified) by the latest adventures of our favorite Staten Island vampires. Because even when it's not at its best, What We Do in the Shadows is still pretty damn good.
