Neon Genesis Evangelion You Are Not Alone Full Movie

Okay, picture this: giant robots fighting giant monsters. That's basically the elevator pitch for Neon Genesis Evangelion, and specifically, "You Are (Not) Alone," the first movie in the Rebuild of Evangelion series.
Shinji's First Ride (and His First Panic Attack)
We meet Shinji Ikari, a teenage boy who's about as enthusiastic about life as a wet blanket. His estranged dad, Gendo, calls him out of the blue to pilot a giant bio-machine called an Evangelion (or Eva for short). Talk about family bonding!
The first time Shinji gets into Eva-01, it's a disaster. He’s basically screaming the entire time, which, honestly, is a pretty relatable reaction when facing down a building-sized, vaguely terrifying creature called an Angel. Think of it as the world's worst driving test.
Must Read
Misato to the Rescue (and the Fridge?)
Thank goodness for Misato Katsuragi! She's Shinji's guardian and a tactical operations officer. She’s basically the cool older sister figure...who also drinks a lot of beer and has questionable housekeeping habits.
Her apartment is a mess, showcasing the "I'm too busy saving the world to do laundry" aesthetic. It’s heartwarming (in a strange way) to see this super competent woman also struggling with everyday life.

The Synchronized Dance of Destruction (with Robots)
The fights in "You Are (Not) Alone" are spectacular. The Evas move with a strange mix of grace and brutal force. It’s like watching a ballet performed by titans, only instead of tutus, they’re wielding massive weapons.
The synchronization between the pilot and the Eva is a core concept. When Shinji's mind is in sync, the Eva moves like an extension of his own body. When he’s freaking out (which is often), well, things get messy.
Rei's Mysterious Smile
Then there's Rei Ayanami, the first pilot of Eva-00. She’s quiet, enigmatic, and seems to have a permanent air of mystery about her. She is also covered with bandages. She almost never expresses emotion.

But there's a moment, a brief, almost imperceptible smile, that hints at something deeper beneath the surface. It's a tiny flash of humanity in a world of giant robots and existential dread.
From Zero to Hero (Sort Of)
Shinji starts as a reluctant hero, dragged kicking and screaming into a world-saving role. But as the movie progresses, you see glimpses of his potential. He still complains a lot, though.

He might not be the bravest or most skilled pilot, but he’s trying. That, in itself, is kind of inspiring. He gradually accepts his role.
Not Alone... But Still Confused
"You Are (Not) Alone" ends on a hopeful note, even with the constant threat of giant monsters looming. Shinji begins to form connections with Misato and Rei. He even smiles at one point!
The movie perfectly captures the mix of awe, terror, and awkward teenage feelings that defines Evangelion. It’s a wild ride, full of giant robots, confusing lore, and characters you can’t help but root for, even when they’re being incredibly frustrating.
