Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind Characters

Let's talk Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. I know, I know, it's a masterpiece. But some characters? Let's just say I have opinions.
The Star: Nausicaä Herself
Okay, Nausicaä is amazing. She's brave, kind, and loves bugs. Seriously, who else is hugging giant insects?
She's practically perfect, which is maybe... slightly boring? Don't get me wrong, I admire her, but where's the fun in flawlessness?
Must Read
Mito: The Grandpa We All Wish We Had
Mito is that grumpy, but secretly sweet grandpa. He's always looking out for Nausicaä. Someone get this man a lifetime supply of tea!
He’s loyal and fiercely protective. Mito is truly iconic, a solid figure who supports Nausicaa's actions.
The "Meh" Crew
Now, let's get to the characters I'm not entirely sold on. Prepare for some potentially controversial takes!

Yupa: The Wise Wanderer (Yawn?)
Yupa is wise. He travels a lot. Is he fascinating though? I'm not so sure.
He mostly offers exposition and looks concerned. Sorry, Yupa, but I need more pizzazz!
Asbel: The Brooding Pilot
Asbel is Nausicaä's friend and also a pilot. He has family issues and a desire to protect everyone.

He's alright, I guess, but he always looks stressed. Lighten up, Asbel! Enjoy the giant insects!
The Villains (Are They Really?)
Let's be real, even the "bad guys" in Nausicaä have some depth. It makes you think, doesn’t it?
Kushana: The Ambitious Princess
Kushana is ambitious and ruthless. She wants to conquer the toxic jungle. She's kind of awesome in a terrifying way.

Is she evil, or just trying to survive? Maybe she should rethink her strategy, but you've got to admire her determination. Give her the award for "Most Likely to Succeed (At World Domination)."
Kurotowa: Kushana's Loyal (But Clueless) Sidekick
Kurotowa is... there. He follows Kushana's orders. He doesn't really question anything.
Honestly, I mostly feel bad for him. He's like the office worker who's stuck with a demanding boss. Kurotowa deserves a vacation.

Unpopular Opinion Time!
Okay, here's my truly unpopular opinion: The Ohmu aren't that scary. Big, blue, and sensitive? More like big, blue, misunderstood cuddle bugs!
I mean, sure, they can destroy stuff when angry. But who can't relate to that sometimes?
Maybe I just have a soft spot for giant insects. Maybe the toxic jungle air has gotten to my head. But those are my Nausicaä character thoughts. Agree or disagree?
