Natsu E No Tunnel Sayonara No Deguchi

Okay, let's talk about Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi (aka, The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes). We've all seen it, right? Or at least, scrolled past it on some streaming service.
I have a confession. It's a beautiful movie, visually stunning, no doubt. The animation is top-notch. But… whispers …I found it kinda slow.
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Look, I get it. It's a poignant story about grief, time distortion, and young love. Heavy stuff. But am I the only one who felt like it was dragging its feet a little?
Must Read
The premise is cool. A tunnel where you trade time for… stuff. Sounds like a sketchy antique store, but okay, I'm in. Except, the execution felt a bit… drawn out?
Maybe I'm just impatient. Maybe my attention span is shorter than a goldfish's. But I need something to happen.
The Characters Were...Nice?
Tono Kaoru is our broody protagonist. Anzu Hanashiro is the strong-willed, slightly abrasive heroine. They're both fine. Good even.

But did I connect with them on a deep, emotional level? Not really. Sorry, not sorry.
They had their baggage, their issues. The whole time travel thing probably didn’t help. But their interactions, while sweet, didn’t exactly set my heart on fire.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the subtle character development. The quiet moments, the unspoken feelings. It just wasn't enough to keep me completely engaged.
The Tunnel Itself: More Interesting Than the Journey?
The tunnel is easily the best character. Seriously. It has rules, quirks, and a slightly menacing vibe. Way more personality than anyone involved.

I spent most of the movie wishing I could go explore the tunnel. Forget the relationship drama. I wanted to see what kind of weird stuff was hidden inside!
Imagine the possibilities! Forgotten toys, lost homework, maybe even a decent plot twist. The tunnel promised adventure, but delivered… mostly pining.
Was I Expecting Too Much?
Perhaps. The hype was real. Everyone was raving about this movie. "Emotional masterpiece!" "Visually stunning!" "Life-changing!"

I went in with high expectations. Maybe that was my mistake. The pressure cooker of expectation can ruin anything.
So, I ended up feeling slightly underwhelmed. It was pretty. The music was nice. But it didn’t quite grab me.
I know, I know. I'm probably going to get roasted for this opinion. But hey, we can't all love everything. Especially when time travel is involved. It just makes everything confusing.
And frankly, maybe I need more explosions in my time-bending romantic dramas. Just a thought.

Look, I respect Natsu e no Tunnel. It's a well-made film. It's just not my cup of tea. Or maybe I prefer coffee. Something stronger to keep me awake. I can't help it.
Maybe I just prefer a different kind of story. Something with more action, or maybe just a really good villain. Someone to hate, you know? It's good to have a good bad guy.
So, there you have it. My controversial (maybe) opinion on a beloved anime film. Feel free to disagree with me. That's the beauty of art, right?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch something with robots fighting. Less emotional baggage, more explosions.
Pure escapism. Don't judge.
