My Roku Won T Connect To The Internet

The little purple box. My trusty Roku. It's been my friend through thick and thin, binge-watching sessions and countless movie nights. But lately, it’s been giving me the silent treatment – refusing to connect to the internet.
First, I tried the obvious. You know, the millennial prayer: turning it off and on again. I unplugged the Roku, waited a respectable 10 seconds (okay, maybe it was closer to five), and plugged it back in.
Nada. Still staring at that dreaded "Not Connected" screen.

The Router Tango
Time to dance with the router. This is where things get interesting. My router, a mysterious beast with blinking lights, lives in a dusty corner behind a stack of old board games.
I approached it cautiously, like one might approach a grumpy bear. I unplugged it, waited… this time, I actually counted to ten. Plugged it back in, and waited for the lights to stop flashing like a disco ball.
Still nothing. Roku stubbornly refused to join the party.

Enter the Family
Desperate times call for desperate measures. It was time to call in the reinforcements: my tech-savvy teenage nephew, Ethan.
Ethan, armed with his phone and an air of quiet confidence, arrived like a digital knight in shining armor. He started muttering about IP addresses and DNS servers.
Honestly, it sounded like he was speaking a foreign language. I just nodded and pretended to understand.

He poked and prodded, restarting things I didn't even know could be restarted. At one point, he held his phone up to the router and said something about "signal strength." It was all very impressive.
The Unexpected Culprit
After about half an hour of intense troubleshooting, Ethan declared, "Aunt Susan, I think I found the problem." My heart leaped with joy.
It turned out that somehow, inexplicably, the password for my Wi-Fi had been changed. Apparently, my three-year-old niece, Lily, had been playing with the router and, in her infinite wisdom, decided to create a new password using a string of random letters and numbers.

I couldn't even be mad. Lily, the password whisperer, had single-handedly brought my streaming empire to its knees.
Ethan, with a few taps and clicks, restored the original password. And just like that, the Roku sprang back to life. Netflix, Hulu, all my old friends were back.
Lesson Learned
The moral of the story? Sometimes, the most complex tech problems have the simplest, silliest solutions. And sometimes, the solution involves a toddler and a mischievous grin.

I also learned that I should probably childproof my router a little better. Or at least teach Lily the importance of a strong Wi-Fi connection for Aunt Susan's sanity.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with my Roku and a new season of my favorite show. Just need to keep Lily away from the router…
And maybe, just maybe, I should learn a little bit about IP addresses. Just in case.
