Alright, heroes and villains! Let's dive straight in. We're talking about the very first episode of My Hero Academia Season 5, but the dubbed version, of course.

First Impressions: Still Awesome, Right?

Don't get me wrong, I adore My Hero Academia. The characters, the action, the sheer absurdity of some Quirks... it's all gold.

But... Season 5's start? It felt a little... off to me. Maybe I'm just too hyped up for the Joint Training arc, but I had some issues with the dubbed version of episode 1.

The Dreaded Recap Episode

Let's be honest, nobody really loves recap episodes. They’re like eating broccoli when you’re craving pizza. Necessary? Maybe. Satisfying? Not so much.

This episode felt heavy on the "remember all this stuff from previous seasons?" mode. It's fine for a refresher, but I was itching for new content.

The Class 1-A vs. Class 1-B Rivalry: Underrated?

Okay, maybe this is where my unpopular opinion comes in. I actually enjoy the whole Class 1-A versus Class 1-B dynamic.

They’re like siblings constantly trying to one-up each other. Their Quirks are different, their personalities clash, and it's hilarious!

I’m not saying it’s the peak of the series. However, I like seeing the other students get some love. Is that a bad thing?

The Dub: Hit or Miss?

Here's where I get a little nitpicky. The English dub is generally great for My Hero Academia.

I love hearing the voices of Deku, Bakugo, and the rest of the gang in English. It makes the anime much more accessible to watch.

But something about this particular episode felt a tad stilted. Like the voice actors were acting rather than becoming the characters.

I think the script could have been snappier. Some lines sounded unnatural, even in the recap segments. It's a minor detail, but it bugged me.

Animation Quality: Still Top-Notch

Thankfully, one thing that didn't disappoint was the animation. Bones always delivers the goods.

The fight scenes were dynamic, the character designs were sharp, and everything looked polished. No complaints here!

Final Verdict: A Slow Start, But Still Promising

Overall, My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 1 (dubbed) wasn't the strongest start. It felt like a lot of setup and not enough payoff.

But it's still My Hero Academia. There is so much potential for incredible action and character development. So I can't lose hope.

Hopefully, the rest of the season will kick things into high gear. Bring on the Joint Training arc! I'm ready for the heroes to prove themselves.
