Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Episode 1

Okay, let's talk about that anime. You know, the one everyone had opinions about.
Yes, I'm talking about the first episode of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. More specifically, Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Episode 1.
The Infamous Intro
We all know how it starts. A sad, pathetic NEET dies. Gets reincarnated as a baby in a fantasy world. The usual isekai setup, right?
Must Read
Except... it's not quite the usual.
The protagonist, Rudeus Greyrat, retains his memories from his previous life. And immediately starts, well... being a creep.
The Unpopular Opinion Starts Here
Here's where I might lose some people. But I'm going to say it anyway. Was the beginning uncomfortable? Absolutely. Did it make me squirm? You bet. But did it ruin the entire show for me?

Nope. Not even close. Hear me out!
I know, I know. The whole baby-with-adult-thoughts thing is super weird. The peeping? Awful. I'm not defending those actions. But here's the thing:
The show knows it's messed up. It's not trying to paint Rudeus as some perfect, heroic figure from the get-go.
It's showing us a deeply flawed individual with serious issues. And that's actually kind of refreshing in the isekai genre, where protagonists are often overpowered and morally flawless from the start.

Character Development, Maybe?
The first episode is a starting point. A really, really low starting point. But it's a starting point nonetheless.
The entire journey of Mushoku Tensei is about Rudeus growing as a person. Trying to overcome his past trauma and become someone better. And, you know, maybe learn some manners along the way.
Sure, the first episode could have handled things with more nuance. But it also set the stage for a character arc that's surprisingly compelling.

The Power of Low Expectations?
Maybe my expectations were just really low going in. Maybe I was prepared for the worst. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised.
The world-building in Mushoku Tensei is fantastic. The magic system is intricate. And the characters, despite their flaws, are engaging.
And honestly, I'm kind of tired of isekai heroes who are instantly amazing at everything. I want to see some struggle! I want to see some mistakes!
Give It a Chance (Maybe?)
So, is Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Episode 1 perfect? Absolutely not. Is it problematic? Yes. But is it indicative of the entire series?

I don't think so.
If you can stomach the initial cringe, there's a genuinely good story to be found here. One about redemption, growth, and finding your place in a new world.
Or, you know, you can just stick to the shows where the hero is already perfect. That's cool too. Just don't knock Mushoku Tensei until you've given it a fair shot (past the first episode, at least!).
Just saying.
