Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Season 2 Ova

Okay, let's talk Dragon Maid. Specifically, that Season 2 OVA. You know, the one everyone seems to universally adore? Yeah, that one.
Don't get me wrong. I love Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Dragons doing human things? Peak comedy!
But… am I the only one who thinks the OVA was… fine? Like, good fine, not groundbreaking fine.
Must Read
The Charm Offensive
The OVA, titled "Natsu no Zantou! Erum Dragon Kyanpu!!" (Residual Summer Heat! Dragon Camp!!), follows the crew on a camping trip. It's cute. It's fluffy.
Kanna is adorable, as always. Tohru's attempts to please Kobayashi are endearing.
Even Fafnir's grumpiness adds to the charm. It's classic Dragon Maid shenanigans.

My (Maybe) Unpopular Opinion
But here's the thing. I feel like it was… just another episode. A really good episode, sure.
But it didn't have that extra oomph that some of the main season episodes had.
Maybe it's because it felt a little… contained? Like it didn't really explore any new ground.
We've seen Tohru try (and hilariously fail) to be a good maid before. We've seen the dragons adapt to human life.

The camping trip was fun, but it didn't exactly push the boundaries of the show. Am I alone here?
The Good Stuff (Because There's Plenty)
Okay, let's not pretend it was all just "meh." The animation was gorgeous. Seriously, Kyoto Animation delivered.
The character interactions were gold. The little moments of genuine connection between Kobayashi and the dragons warmed my cold, cynical heart.
And the comedy? Still on point. Fafnir's struggles with camping gear? Priceless.

So, What's My Point?
I guess my point is that maybe, just maybe, we set our expectations a little too high for OVAs.
They're often treated like bonus content, a little treat to tide us over between seasons.
And this OVA was a perfectly good treat. A delicious, dragon-shaped lollipop.
But maybe I was expecting a whole chocolate cake. You know, something with layers and frosting and tiny dragon figurines on top.

Maybe I'm just being greedy. Or maybe, just maybe, I'm the only one who feels this way.
Either way, I'm still eagerly awaiting more Dragon Maid. Cake or lollipop, I'll take it!
Don't get me wrong; I did enjoyed the OVA. It was a fun return to the world we've all come to know and love.
I just feel like it could've been a bit... more? What do you think?
