Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Season 2 New Character

A New Dragon in Town: Yay or Nay? (An Unpopular Opinion)
Okay, let's talk Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S. Season two dropped, and with it, a brand new dragon! We're all supposed to love her, right? Well…
Meet Ilulu. She's…a lot. Let's just say her character design is certainly...memorable. Some fans instantly fell in love.
But I have a confession. I'm not totally sold. Prepare for my potentially controversial take!
Must Read
Too Much, Too Soon?
Don't get me wrong, I like new characters! They spice things up. More dragons means more chaos, which is usually a good thing, right?
But Ilulu feels a bit forced. Like the writers were trying a little too hard to be edgy and provocative. Did we really need another dragon with… those assets?
The show already has a fantastic cast! We have Tohru, the lovably clingy main dragon. And Kanna, the adorable electricity-loving child. And Fafnir, the grumpy gamer.

They are all amazing! Was there really room for another dragon vying for screen time?
The "Oppai Loli" Trope: A Sigh
Let's address the elephant in the room. Ilulu's design heavily relies on the "oppai loli" trope. It's…overused. And honestly, a bit icky.
I know, I know. Anime does this all the time! But does it have to? Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is usually so clever and heartwarming. This felt out of place.

It feels like a cheap trick. An attempt to grab attention with fan service instead of genuine character development. And I just find it disappointing.
Where’s the Heart?
The first season was so good because of the relationships! The found family dynamic between Kobayashi, Tohru, and the rest. Where's the connection with Ilulu?
I get that she's supposed to be challenging Tohru's beliefs. Making her question her bond with Kobayashi. But it feels more like a plot device than genuine conflict.

I wanted to feel something for Ilulu! I wanted to understand her motivations, see her grow. But I mostly just felt…uncomfortable.
She's Not All Bad
Okay, okay, I'm being harsh. Ilulu isn't completely terrible. She does have some funny moments. And her interactions with Take Mikoto are… interesting.
Her design, while problematic, is undeniably unique. The whole candy-themed dragon is kind of cute. I'll admit, the idea is fun.

And maybe, just maybe, future seasons will flesh her out more. Give her a real personality beyond the surface-level stuff. There is still potential!
Final Verdict?
So, where do I stand on Ilulu? I'm still undecided. I appreciate the attempt to add something new to the mix.
But I think the execution fell a bit short. The character felt more like a checklist of tropes than a fully realized individual. She gets
mehfrom me.
Maybe I'm just being a grumpy old anime fan. But hey, that's my unpopular opinion! What do you think?
