Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S Short Animation Series

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S Short Animation Series

Okay, let's talk Dragon Maid S shorts. You know, those little extra snippets after the main episodes? They're cute, right?

Everyone seems to love them. Tiny bits of dragon-y fun. But hear me out…

An Unpopular Opinion (Maybe?)

I'm going to say it. I think some of them are... a little boring. Gasp!

Don't get me wrong, I adore Tohru and the gang. But sometimes the shorts feel a bit… filler-y.

The Charm is There, Though!

The animation is always top-notch, of course. Kyoto Animation never disappoints.

Seeing Kanna being adorable is never a waste of time. She’s basically a fluffy, destructive ball of sunshine.

And Fafnir's deadpan delivery? Comedy gold. I love when he hides in Kobayashi's apartment and plays video games.

But Are They Necessary?

Here's where my inner critic comes out. Do these shorts really add much to the story?

Sometimes it's just Tohru trying to do human things. Hilarious, yes, but does it move the plot forward? Not really.

Or it’s Elma eating sweets. I love sweets, but do we need a dedicated segment every episode?

"Perhaps the shorts are meant to be purely lighthearted fun."

Okay, I get it. But even lighthearted fun can be… more fun, right?

The Potential! Oh, The Potential!

Imagine if they used the short format to explore smaller character arcs. Little moments of growth or vulnerability.

Like, a short focused on Lucoa actually dealing with her anxieties. Or Ilulu learning to navigate the human world.

Something beyond the usual comedic routines, you know? More depth.

I Still Love Them (Mostly)

Look, I'm not saying the shorts are bad. They’re enjoyable enough.

And they are a nice little bonus after each episode. It’s like a dessert after a good meal.

They’re a cute, bite-sized piece of dragon-filled goodness.

Final Thoughts

Maybe I'm just being overly critical. Maybe I need to lighten up and enjoy the fluff.

Perhaps I secretly just want more Dragon Maid content, no matter what form it takes.

But I can't help but feel that the shorts could be... more. What do you think?

Am I alone in this? Tell me I’m not!

Maybe I should just go watch Kanna eat a crepe and calm down.

Yeah, that sounds like a plan.
