Okay, let's talk Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. You know, the movie? The one set in Savannah?

I'm just gonna say it. I don’t love it. There, I said it.

Hush Your Mouth: Unpopular Opinions Ahead

Everyone swoons over this movie. They love the atmosphere, the characters, the dripping Southern charm. Me? I'm left feeling… underwhelmed.

Don't get me wrong. Savannah is gorgeous. The moss-draped trees are fantastic.

But the movie? It's like a fruitcake. Pretty to look at, but a bit much.

The Characters: A Bit Too… Extra?

We've got John Cusack as the writer. He's basically the audience insert, right? Just bewildered by everything.

And then there's Kevin Spacey as Jim Williams. He is always interesting to watch but you might agree that the character is hard to feel sympathetic for, right?

But oh my gosh, Lady Chablis. Don't even get me started. An icon, absolutely. A little over the top for the story?

The Plot: A Slow Southern Drawl

The murder mystery? It kind of plods along. I found my attention drifting toward the scenery.

There are so many side characters. It gets distracting.

It felt like it took approximately one million years for that trial to happen.

Savannah, I Still Love You (Just Not the Movie)

Look, I'm not saying it's a bad movie. It's just… not my cup of sweet tea.

Maybe my expectations were too high. All that hype!

I went in expecting a cinematic masterpiece and got a slightly soggy postcard.

The Soundtrack: Now That's Something!

Okay, one thing I can't deny. The soundtrack is amazing.

All those classic jazz and blues tunes! They set the mood perfectly.

I'd listen to that soundtrack even if I never watched the movie again.

So, Am I Crazy?

Maybe I'm alone in this. Maybe everyone else adores Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

But I just found it a bit… boring. There, I said it again!

And I'm standing by it. I will say, though, I wish I was there at the time of the murder trial.

Before you come at me...

Maybe I need to re-watch it. Maybe I missed something profound.

But for now, I'll stick to visiting Savannah in my imagination. No movie required.

It's a beautiful city. You should visit and see for yourself! Maybe leave the movie on the shelf.
