Lupin The Third The First English Dub

Lupin The Third The First English Dub

Okay, let's talk about something that might get me some side-eyes. Something that's a bit of a Lupin the Third hot topic.

I'm talking about the English dub of Lupin the Third: The First.

The Animation is Stunning, Right?

First off, can we all agree the animation is gorgeous? Like, Disney-level beautiful. Those cars! The explosions!

It's visually stunning. No arguments here.

But Then There's the Voice Acting...

Now, here's where my "unpopular opinion" alarm starts blaring. Many people love the English dub. I respect that. I really do.

But... I just don't. There, I said it.

Don't get me wrong, the voice actors are talented. It's not a matter of bad acting.

It's more about...the fit. Does it feel like Lupin?

Subtitles Are My Treasure

I find the original Japanese with subtitles hits differently. It captures the essence of the characters.

Specifically, the original voices of Lupin and Jigen are iconic in a way that I don’t think any dub can truly replicate. It's pure nostalgia.

I understand that dubs are made to be more accessible. But something is lost in translation, beyond just the words.

The nuance, the cadence, the tiny vocal tics that make each character unique...it's harder to capture in a new language.

Fujiko's Voice: A Personal Quibble

Okay, and this is just a personal thing, but I'm never completely happy with Fujiko's English dub voice. It's always close, but never quite there.

She needs to sound cunning, seductive, and a little bit dangerous. A tall order, I know!

I love to hear the japanese original, Miyuki Sawashiro, giving it her all.

Is It Just Me? Probably Not.

I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. The internet is a vast ocean of opinions.

But, I wanted to throw my hat in the ring. This Lupin opinion just needed to get out there.

There's a certain "charm" to the original Japanese that feels...untouchable.

Watch It Your Way!

Ultimately, it's all subjective, right? If you love the English dub, then by all means, enjoy it! Lupin is for everyone!

I'm not saying it's bad. I just prefer the original Japanese version.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old Lupin fan clinging to the past. Maybe I need to lighten up.

Maybe I just really love reading subtitles. Who knows?

A Toast to Lupin, However You Watch!

No matter your preferred language, let's all raise a glass to Lupin the Third.

He's a master thief, a charming rogue, and a timeless character. And that’s what matters most.

Cheers!
