Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 3 Hair-raising Hare

Okay, Looney Tunes fans, let's talk Hair-Raising Hare from the Platinum Collection Volume 3. It's a classic. I know, I know, everyone loves it. But hear me out.
Bugs vs. Gruesome
The premise is simple: Bugs Bunny takes a wrong turn. He ends up in the lair of the monstrous Gruesome. Gruesome wants to cook Bugs for dinner. Classic cartoon shenanigans ensue.
But is it really as good as we remember? Is it truly a top-tier Bugs Bunny adventure? I'm not so sure.
Must Read
A Slow Start?
The beginning feels a little… slow. Bugs isn't his usual witty self right away. He seems more confused than clever at first.
Maybe it's just me. But I prefer Bugs to be instantly on top of things. You know, already two steps ahead of the game.
He eventually gets there. Don't worry. But those first few minutes feel like a warm-up act.
Gruesome's... Gruesomeness
Gruesome is certainly... gruesome. He's a big, hulking monster. He's got a terrifying voice. He's everything you'd expect from a Looney Tunes villain.

But is he memorable? Honestly, I always forget his name. He's just "the monster" in my head.
Compared to the likes of Yosemite Sam or Marvin the Martian, he's a bit bland. He lacks a certain… personality quirk.
The Gag Reflex
The gags are good. They're classic Looney Tunes fare. There's cross-dressing, mistaken identity, and plenty of slapstick.
The problem? Some of them feel a little… predictable. I found myself anticipating the punchlines.

Maybe I've just seen it too many times. But the element of surprise was somewhat diminished.
The Ending...
The ending is fine. Bugs outsmarts Gruesome, of course. He escapes with his tail (and ears) intact.
But it's not the most satisfying conclusion. It feels a little rushed, a little anticlimactic.
I wanted a more elaborate prank. Something truly epic to solidify Bugs' victory. But I didn't get it.

My Unpopular Opinion
So, here it is: I think Hair-Raising Hare is overrated. It's good, sure. But not a masterpiece.
There, I said it! Feel free to disagree. I'm prepared for the backlash.
Perhaps it's nostalgia clouding everyone else's judgment. Or maybe I just have weird taste.
Other Gems in the Platinum Collection
The Platinum Collection Volume 3 has plenty of other great cartoons. Let's not forget that. There is a bunch of other cartoons to love.

We have Duck Amuck. That’s a classic. There is also What’s Opera, Doc? which I adore.
So, even if Hair-Raising Hare doesn't quite hit the mark for me, there is still plenty to enjoy in this collection. It's worth checking out!
Final Thoughts
Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy watching Hair-Raising Hare. It's still a fun cartoon. There are certainly parts that make me laugh.
But I think it's time we acknowledge that not every Looney Tunes short is perfect. Some are just... good.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Rabbit Seasoning. That one's flawless.
