Lily And Marshall How I Met Your Mother

Okay, let's talk about How I Met Your Mother. Specifically, let's talk about Lily Aldrin and Marshall Eriksen. Everyone loves them, right? The perfect couple? Maybe... not so much.
Don't get me wrong, they're cute. But are they actually good for each other? I have some thoughts.
Lily's Secret Credit Card Debt
Let's start with Lily. She's adorable! But remember that whole credit card debt thing? A massive amount hidden from Marshall?
Must Read
That's a HUGE red flag! Open and honest communication is key in a relationship. Hiding financial problems is… not ideal.
Imagine finding out your partner has secretly maxed out multiple credit cards. How would you feel?
The San Francisco Debacle
And then there's San Francisco. Lily leaves Marshall to pursue her "artistic dreams." Right before their wedding!

It's understandable wanting to follow your passions. But abandoning your fiancé with no warning? Ouch!
Marshall was heartbroken! He ate a lot of cheese puffs. A LOT.
Marshall's... Naiveté?
Now, let's look at Marshall. He's the sweetest guy ever! Maybe too sweet?
He's incredibly naive, almost to a fault. Lily often gets away with things because he's just so forgiving.

Is it good to be forgiving? Absolutely. But is it healthy to constantly enable questionable behavior?
Always the Good Guy
Marshall always tries to see the best in everyone. Which is admirable. But sometimes, people are actually doing something wrong!
He can be a bit of a pushover. Which isn't exactly a recipe for a balanced relationship.
Sometimes, I just want to shake him and say, "Marshall, stand up for yourself!"

Their Codependency
Honestly, I think Lily and Marshall are a little codependent. They've been together since college!
They haven't really experienced much life without each other. Which can be limiting.
Is it possible to grow as individuals while being so deeply intertwined? I'm not so sure.
Unpopular Opinion?
So, am I saying Lily and Marshall are a terrible couple? No, not at all! They clearly love each other. They have great chemistry.

But are they the perfect couple that everyone makes them out to be? I'm just not convinced. They have their flaws.
Maybe that's what makes them relatable. But maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't hold them up as the gold standard of relationships.
What do you think? Am I crazy? Or do you see what I'm getting at?
Perhaps I'm just a hopeless romantic who expects too much. Or maybe, Lily and Marshall are just a little bit overrated.
