Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Number Of Episodes

Okay, let's talk Law & Order: SVU. We all know it. We all secretly love it (even if we pretend we don't watch that much TV).
But have you ever stopped to consider...just how many episodes are there?
Seriously, It's a Lot
The number of episodes is astronomical. I'm talking more than most relationships last. And that's saying something.
Must Read
Is it too many?
This is where things get controversial. I'm going to say it: Maybe, just maybe, SVU has jumped the shark. Just a little bit.
Don't get me wrong. I used to be obsessed. I'd binge watch with glee. I'd even quote lines.
But after a certain point, did the cases start to blend together? Did anyone else start feeling like they'd seen it all before?

My Unpopular Opinion
Here it comes: I think SVU should have stopped...a while ago. Before it hit, like, 400 episodes. Maybe around 300?
Hear me out! Think of all the amazing TV shows that ended before they got stale. Breaking Bad knew when to quit. The Office (US version) should have ended sooner.
Sometimes, less is more. Quality over quantity, you know?
Instead, SVU keeps going. And going. Like that Energizer bunny, but with more Olivia Benson.

But Wait, There's More!
And it's not just the sheer number of episodes. It's the storylines. They've tackled pretty much every imaginable crime. Twice.
Sometimes, it feels like they're trying too hard to be relevant. Ripping headlines from the news and turning them into dramatic TV.
It can feel a little…exploitative. I still watch, though. Don't judge me.
Olivia Benson: The Constant
Of course, Mariska Hargitay is amazing. She is Olivia Benson. The show wouldn't be the same without her.

But even the best actress can only do so much. After a while, even Olivia must be tired. She's seen some things.
I'm just saying, maybe it's time for Olivia to retire. Open a cat sanctuary. Write a memoir.
The Never-Ending Story
The truth is, I'm probably wrong. SVU is still popular. People are still watching. It makes NBC a lot of money.
And who am I to argue with success? But a part of me still thinks that SVU could have been even more legendary if it had ended on a high note.

Before the episode count got, frankly, ridiculous. Before it became a cultural institution that's just...always there.
So, yeah, maybe it's an unpopular opinion. But I stand by it: SVU could have been even better if it had ended sooner. Don't @ me.
But I'll still be watching next week. Guilty pleasure, remember?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a sudden urge to binge-watch some early seasons. Just for comparison, of course. For research.
