Last Night My Stepmother Did This For Me

Okay, unpopular opinion alert! Last night, my stepmother did something...and I kind of loved it.
It involves pajamas. And chocolate. Maybe a hint of reality TV judgement. Don't judge me!
The Pajama Party (of One)
So, there I was. Curled up on the couch. Wearing my most gloriously hideous pajamas. You know the ones.
Must Read
They’re basically wearable blankets. Comfort over style is my motto, always.
Then, she appeared. My stepmother, Brenda.
Brenda, bless her heart, is usually all about appearances. She’s got that whole effortlessly chic thing down pat.
The Chocolate Offering
She walked in holding…a giant bar of dark chocolate! Not just any chocolate. The expensive stuff.
The kind that whispers sweet nothings to your tastebuds. The kind you hide from your kids.

“I thought you might need this,” she said. No judgement. Just pure, unadulterated chocolate support.
I swear I saw a halo around her head. Okay, maybe it was the TV glare, but still!
Suddenly, Brenda was no longer just my stepmother. She was my chocolate-delivery angel.
The Reality TV Revelation
Then, she sat down. On the couch. Next to me, in my pajama glory.
And she started watching my trashy reality TV show with me. Real Housewives of...wherever. You know the drill.

And she commented. Not in a disapproving way. But in a hilariously sarcastic, "OMG, did you SEE what she just did?!" kind of way.
I actually laughed so hard I snorted. It was beautiful.
We judged those reality stars together. It was a bonding experience like no other.
The Unpopular Opinion
Here's the thing. I actually enjoyed having Brenda there. In my pajama-clad, chocolate-fueled reality TV binge.
I know, I know. Stepfamily relationships are supposed to be complicated and dramatic.

But sometimes, just sometimes, they're about sharing chocolate and judging strangers on TV.
And honestly? I think that's pretty great.
Maybe it's an unpopular opinion. Maybe I'm betraying some unspoken stepmother-stepdaughter code.
But I'm going to say it anyway: I think my stepmother is secretly awesome.
"Sometimes, the best things in life are chocolate, hideous pajamas, and shared reality TV judgement."

Don't tell her I said that. It would ruin her cool, chic image.
But seriously, sometimes the unexpected gestures are the ones that mean the most.
So, thank you, Brenda. For the chocolate. For the company. And for not judging my pajamas.
You might just be winning this stepmother thing.
Okay, I'm off to hide the rest of the chocolate before my kids find it.
Wish me luck!
