Kaguya-sama Love Is War Season 1 Episode 9

Kaguya-sama: Episode 9 – My (Slightly) Controversial Take
Okay, let's talk Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, specifically, episode 9. I know, I know, this aired ages ago. But some thoughts just linger, you know?
Everyone raves about this show. And rightfully so! The mind games, the animation, Chika Fujiwara... it's all top-notch.
The Umbrella Scene: Overhyped?
The umbrella scene, right? Kaguya and Shirogane awkwardly sharing an umbrella in the rain. Pure romance gold, according to the internet.
Must Read
But hear me out. Maybe, just maybe, it's a little... overhyped?
Don’t get me wrong, it was cute! The blushing, the internal monologues – classic Kaguya-sama. Still, it's not my favorite segment from the first season.
Ishigami's Savior Complex: Now We're Talking!
For me, the real star of this episode was Yu Ishigami. His awkward, yet heroic, attempts to "save" the girls from the approaching delinquents. Peak Ishigami!

His inner thoughts are just so relatable! His sheer panic and social anxiety are hilarious. Who hasn’t been there?
I mean, the guy basically expects the worst in every situation. That’s my spirit animal right there.
Kaguya's Cat Ears: Adorable, But...
Okay, the cat ears. Kaguya Shinomiya with cat ears is objectively adorable. End of discussion.

But did it really move the plot forward? Not really. Was it primarily fanservice? Maybe a little.
Look, I love fanservice. I just didn't find this segment as impactful as other moments in the show.
The Board Game Shenanigans: Pure Gold
The board game segment, though! That's where the real genius of episode 9 lies. The escalating tension! Chika Fujiwara's chaotic energy!
Watching Shirogane desperately try to win against Kaguya was hilarious. Especially when he almost confessed his feelings... over a board game.

The way the scene builds, with each character's face becoming more and more distorted as they try to outsmart each other, is comedy gold.
Final Thoughts (Prepare for More Controversy!)
So, yeah. Episode 9 is great. Don't get me wrong. It's still Kaguya-sama, which is inherently awesome.
But if I had to rank the episodes from Season 1, this one wouldn't be in my top three. Maybe not even my top five.

I said what I said! Fight me in the comments (respectfully, of course). What were your favorite parts of episode 9? Am I completely wrong? Let me know!
Ultimately, I think the strength of this episode lies in its ensemble cast. Ishigami's social awkwardness combined with Fujiwara's chaotic nature create a perfect storm of comedic brilliance.
Even the umbrella scene, while not my favorite, added to the overall romantic tension. It's a good setup for later episodes.
So, while I might have some slightly "unpopular" opinions about certain segments, I still adore this show. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to rewatch it... again.
