Joe Pera Talks With You Season 3 Episode 7

Okay, let's talk about Joe Pera Talks With You. Specifically, Season 3, Episode 7. "Joe Pera Finds a Family of Raccoons." It's an episode. A very Joe Pera episode.
Now, I know everyone loves this show. And rightfully so. It’s like a warm blanket for your soul. But I have a confession. A potentially unpopular opinion.
Raccoons: Cute, But Overrated?
Hear me out. The raccoon episode. It's good. Sure. But is it... the best episode? Maybe not. Maybe we all got a little too caught up in the fuzzy bandit hype.
Must Read
We see Joe Pera being Joe Pera. He finds raccoons. He names them. He worries about them. Classic Joe.
But, I don't know. The raccoons, while adorable, felt a bit... predictable? Is that sacrilege? Probably.
There's a montage of Joe leaving food out. There is gentle piano music. It’s all very charming, I get it.
The charm offensive worked! Sarah Conner is great. But did the raccoons really add that much to her character arc?

Maybe I just have raccoon fatigue. Too many garbage can raids, you know?
Other Episodes Shine Brighter
Think about the episode where Joe learns about Walt Whitman. Or the one about iron. Pure brilliance! Did raccoons write those?
The Whitman episode had depth. It made you think about life, death, and poetry. The iron episode taught you about iron. A crucial element!
Raccoons, while cute, mostly just... ate. Again, not trying to be a monster here. Just stating a fact.

And don’t even get me started on the episode about second fridge. It's peak Joe Pera in his element. The nuances of cold storage!
The whole show is a subtle masterpiece. But sometimes, the subtleties are too subtle. Like a raccoon ninja.
Sarah’s subplot is strong, though. Her anxiety and vulnerability about her relationships is palpable. That's good writing.
But I still think other episodes are stronger. More impactful. Perhaps more Joe.

It's Still Joe Pera, Though
Let me be clear: I still love this show. I love Joe Pera. I’d happily watch him read the phone book (if anyone still had a phone book).
Even a "lesser" episode of Joe Pera Talks With You is better than most things on TV. It is uniquely comforting.
The episode is still filled with the show's trademark gentle humor and heartwarming moments. The show is cozy like a grandpa's sweater.
But, personally, I find myself rewatching other episodes more often. The ones with more "stuff" happening. (Relatively speaking, of course).

So, yeah. Maybe I’m a weirdo. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I just don't appreciate raccoons enough. Probably all of the above.
But, hey, that's just my take. What do you think? Am I wrong? Probably. But let's discuss in the comments!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch the episode about fall drive, and bask in the golden glory of pumpkin spice.
And maybe apologize to a raccoon or two. You know, just in case.
