Is There A Season 2 Of Normal People

So, you binged Normal People, didn't you? We all did. The yearning, the awkward silences, Connell's chain...it was a cultural moment.
Now, the big question: is there a Season 2 coming? The internet's been buzzing about this since, well, basically since the credits rolled on the finale.
The Sad Truth (Maybe?)
Brace yourselves. Officially, no, there's no confirmed Season 2 of Normal People. Deep breaths everyone! Don't throw your Marian's cardigan across the room just yet.
Must Read
The show was always conceived as a limited series, adapting Sally Rooney's brilliant novel. Limited series usually wrap things up nicely in one go. No cliffhangers to torture us for years.
However, there's always a glimmer of hope, right? Hollywood loves a good comeback and fans will do anything for more of Connell and Marianne.
The "Normal People" Universe Expands!
But wait! Before you start writing angry letters to Hulu (or BBC iPlayer, depending on where you are), there's good news! We haven't seen the last of Connell and Marianne.

Remember Comic Relief? That charity telethon thing? Well, they did a special sketch featuring Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones reprising their roles! It was hilarious and heartwarming.
They weren't just Connell and Marianne though. They were, well, Connell and Marianne... 25 years in the future! Can you imagine that?
The Sketch: A Glimpse into the Future
The Comic Relief sketch showed them as a married couple. Not with each other, mind you! Talk about awkward holiday gatherings!

It was written by Sally Rooney and directed by Lenny Abrahamson, who directed a good part of the TV adaptation. And was very funny!
We see Marianne happily married to someone else. Connell is also coupled up. But that electric connection? Still there! The chemistry refuses to die.
And there was a very, very funny cameo by Andrew Scott playing a very hot priest. It was the comedy we all never knew we needed.

So, What Does This Mean For Season 2?
Okay, okay, I know what you're thinking. If they're willing to do a sketch, surely a whole season is possible? Well...
The sketch was just that: a sketch. A fun, one-off treat for fans. It doesn't necessarily pave the way for a full-blown Season 2.
The real hurdle is Sally Rooney. She's the mastermind behind it all. And while she hasn't completely ruled out revisiting the characters, she also hasn't committed to anything.

Never Say Never (But Don't Hold Your Breath)
In Hollywood, anything is possible. Stranger things have happened. Maybe Sally Rooney will wake up one day with a brilliant idea for Connell and Marianne's future.
But for now, it's probably best to cherish the existing Normal People. Re-read the book. Rewatch the series. Buy a silver chain.
And maybe, just maybe, dream of a future where Connell and Marianne find their way back to each other... even if it's just in our imaginations. Or in another Comic Relief sketch!
