Is The Demon Slayer Movie The Same As Season 2

Wait, Was That Demon Slayer Movie Just... Season 2, Part 1?
Okay, hear me out. I'm about to say something that might get me cancelled by Demon Slayer fans. I might need to hide in a wisteria-covered house for a while. But here goes...
Is the Mugen Train movie basically just the beginning of Season 2? I said it! Don't @ me (too hard).
The Case for "Yes, It Is"
Think about it. The movie picks up directly after Season 1. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke are on a train. They meet the amazing Kyojuro Rengoku.
Must Read
Cool guy, right? But then... demons! And a big fight! And emotional goodbyes! It's all very dramatic and important, setting the stage for...well, more demon slaying.
The whole thing feels like an extended episode. A really well-animated, action-packed, tear-jerking episode. But still...an episode.
But Wait, There's More (Season 2)
Then, bam! Season 2 starts with the Entertainment District Arc. More demons, bigger stakes, new Hashira! We get introduced to the flashy and flamboyant Tengen Uzui.

Suddenly, the emotional weight of the Mugen Train feels...slightly less heavy? Okay, maybe not, I still cried. But the story marches onward.
The movie feels like a very, very long prelude. A beautifully crafted and emotionally devastating prelude, granted. But still a prelude.
The "Unpopular Opinion" Defense
I know, I know. The animation was movie-quality! Rengoku was amazing! The soundtrack was epic! All true!

But creatively splitting up a season like that, is it just me or is this a trend now? I felt like I was being asked to pay extra for something that could have just been released as part of season 2. Like watching the first three episodes in theaters.
And, while the animation was stunning, the storytelling feels a little stretched. Like they had to fill an hour and a half when a 45-minute double episode would have sufficed.
Let's Be Honest
Look, I love Demon Slayer. I'm obsessed. But sometimes, I think we, as fans, are a little too quick to praise everything blindly.

Can't we love something and still admit it might be...slightly manipulative? Did they really need to put it in theaters? Probably. Did I still love it? Yes.
Maybe I'm just bitter because I had to sneak tissues into the theater and pretend I wasn't crying in public. (Spoiler alert: I was.)
In Conclusion (Maybe?)
So, is the Mugen Train movie basically just the first arc of Season 2? Maybe. Maybe not. It is good content, no doubt. I can be dramatic sometimes.

Probably I'll get angry emails from rabid Demon Slayer fanatics. I'm okay with that. (Please be nice.)
But deep down, a part of me will always think it was just a really long, expensive, and emotionally charged episode of a really good anime.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-watch Mugen Train and cry all over again. Because, you know, I'm a hypocrite.
