Is Press Your Luck Coming Back In 2022

Okay, let's be honest. We're all wondering the same thing. Is Press Your Luck back, or are we stuck watching reruns of shows where people win sensible cars?
The Wheel of Fortune (and Misfortune?) Spins Again?
Good news! It is back. ABC resurrected the show and it's already aired in 2022. That means more Whammies!
But, here's my unpopular opinion. Is it really back?
Must Read
The Original Recipe vs. the Rebooted Delight
Don't get me wrong. Elizabeth Banks is great. She's funny, charming, and clearly trying her best.
The set is shinier. The contestants seem...nicer. Maybe too nice?
Remember the original? Those contestants were cutthroat! They’d sell their grandma for another spin. Just kidding... mostly.

I miss that glorious, unadulterated greed. The kind that made you question humanity while simultaneously rooting for them to win a yacht.
Is It Missing That Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi?
The new Press Your Luck feels…sanitized. Like they've scrubbed away all the delightfully awkward tension.
Are the stakes high enough? Do we truly feel the pain when someone hits a Whammy? I'm not entirely sure.

Perhaps it's nostalgia talking. But I swear, the original Whammies had a certain malevolence.
The Whammies: A Cruel and Unusual Punishment (But Hilarious)
Those original Whammies were terrifying works of art. Each one a tiny, animated masterpiece of destruction.
They stole your money, your dreams, and your dignity. And we loved every second of it.

The new ones are...cute? Are we supposed to be sympathetic to a creature designed to ruin lives?
The Verdict: Still Fun, But Missing a Little Something
Look, I'm not saying the reboot is bad. It's entertaining enough to watch when nothing else is on.
But it’s missing the chaotic energy of the original. The "anything can happen" feeling that kept you on the edge of your seat.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old soul who prefers vintage television. Or maybe, just maybe, the original Press Your Luck was lightning in a bottle.
It seems they're trying to cater to everyone. But sometimes, appealing to the lowest common denominator dilutes the magic.
Ultimately, is Press Your Luck back? Yes, technically. Is it the same? Not quite, in my humble (and possibly unpopular) opinion.
I will keep watching and secretly wishing a contestant throws a tantrum and demands a recount. Now that would be good TV. And I bet Peter Tomarken would have enjoyed that kind of madness!
