Is It Wrong To Pick Up Dungeon Season 1

Okay, let's talk. Let's talk about Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 1, or as some of us like to call it, DanMachi.
Hear Me Out
I know, I know. Some of you are sharpening your pitchforks. You're thinking, "But it's a classic! Bell Cranell is so pure!" Maybe. Maybe not.
I'm just saying, maybe it's okay to think Season 1 isn't the anime masterpiece everyone claims it is. Don't get me wrong, I like the concept.
Must Read
The Hype Train
But did it entirely deliver on that concept? That's what I'm questioning. Was I swept away by the animation or the plot? Or was it just the hype?
The first season felt a little...generic. A wide eyed hero wanting to be someone important. We've seen it before, haven't we?
Lots of people will disagree with this point. That's ok!

The Damsel Problem
Let's be honest. How many times does Bell Cranell need to save Hestia? A lot, right? It can get tiring.
She's a goddess, shouldn't she be a little more capable? Just a thought. We love the character, but we also wanted more agency from her.
It felt like a lot of the female characters existed to prop up Bell. Again, just my opinion. Don't at me!

The Power-Up
The power-up felt... rushed. Bell goes from zero to hero pretty quickly. Was that really earned?
Granted, he's got the whole "Liars Freeze" thing going for him. Still, the progression felt a little too convenient.
It's like, "Oh, you trained for a week? Here's a massive power boost!"
Is It Wrong to Expect More?
Maybe I just expected more. The concept is fantastic! The world-building is interesting. But.
But I wanted more depth. I wanted more compelling villains. I wanted more character development for everyone.

It's not a bad anime. It's just... overrated?
Not a Hate Post
Look, this isn't a hate post. I actually enjoyed watching DanMachi Season 1. It's fun, it's lighthearted, and the action scenes are cool.
I even watched the later seasons, and like them more!

But let's not pretend it's some groundbreaking, revolutionary anime that changed the game. It's good. Not genre-defining.
The Unpopular Opinion
So, is it wrong to pick up DanMachi Season 1? No, not at all. Watch it! Enjoy it! But maybe, just maybe, temper your expectations.
Is it wrong to think Season 1 is overhyped? I don't think so. And you are free to like it as much as you want.
Maybe you agree with me. Maybe you think I'm completely wrong. Either way, let me know in the comments! (Or don't. I'm not your boss.)
