Is It Wrong To Pick Up Dungeon Freya

Okay, let's talk about Freya. You know, from Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Or DanMachi, if you're cool.)
I've got a confession. I kind of... like her. Yeah, I said it.
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Hear me out before you grab your pitchforks and torches. I know, I know. She's got issues. Big, giant, goddess-sized issues.
Must Read
The whole obsession thing? Not great. The manipulating of Bell Cranel? Definitely not cool.
But...
She's just so darn fascinating. Think about it for a second.
Everyone is so busy fawning over Hestia, or swooning over Ais Wallenstein. What about the goddess of beauty?
She's powerful, beautiful, and undeniably intriguing. Plus, her Familia is stacked! Come on, Ottar alone is a beast!

Let's Be Real
Isn't a little bit of chaos what makes a story interesting? We've all seen stories with the perfect, goody-two-shoes characters. They can be boring.
Freya throws a wrench in the works. She adds a layer of complexity that keeps you guessing. She's a wildcard.
Sure, her methods are questionable. Morally ambiguous at best. But isn't that the point?
I'm not saying she's a role model. Far from it. I'm saying that she's a compelling character.

The Allure of the "Villain"
Sometimes, the "villains" are just more interesting. They have motivations that aren't always pure. But they're still motivations.
Freya wants something. She desires something. And she's not afraid to go after it, even if she hurts people in the process.
We can disapprove of her actions while still finding her captivating. It's a guilty pleasure, maybe. But a pleasure nonetheless.
Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder (and the Author)
The author of DanMachi clearly intended for her to be a character we'd have mixed feelings about. A complicated goddess, who isn't evil but her way of doing things is... questionable.

She embodies both beauty and danger. Grace and ruthlessness. She has power and she wants to use it.
And honestly, that's kind of hot, right? Okay, maybe I'm alone on that one.
So, Is It Wrong?
To pick up Freya? Well, in the literal sense, probably. She's a goddess!
To like Freya? To find her interesting? To appreciate her role in the story? I don't think so.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for a well-written, morally ambiguous character. Or maybe I just have a thing for powerful, beautiful goddesses who could probably crush me with their pinky. Who knows?
Don't judge me. (Okay, go ahead and judge me a little.) But admit it, she adds spice to the story.
And sometimes, a little spice is exactly what you need, even in a dungeon. So, yeah, I like Freya. Sue me!
I'm ready for the backlash.
