In This Corner Of The World Characters

Okay, let's talk about In This Corner of the World. Beautiful movie, right? Makes you think, makes you cry. But some characters… well, let's just say some are more interesting than others.
Suzu: Sweet but…
Everyone loves Suzu. She's adorable and resilient. We're all supposed to adore her whimsical charm and artistic spirit.
But, unpopular opinion incoming: sometimes I wanted to shake her! All that daydreaming? Sweet, but girl, pay attention to the air raid sirens!
Must Read
Shusaku: The Quiet Supporter
Shusaku is a good guy. A really good guy. Stoic, dependable, the kind of husband everyone wishes they had.
But, let's be honest, he's a bit… boring? Like, I appreciate the stability, but where's the spice, Shusaku?
He is like the perfect cup of plain tea. Comforting, but sometimes you crave something a little stronger!

The Ogata Family: A Mixed Bag
The Ogata family is a whole other can of worms. They’re a bit judgmental and definitely opinionated.
But isn’t that what makes family… family?
Keiko: The Tragic Figure
Keiko...oh, Keiko. Her story is heartbreaking. No arguments there.
But I always found her a little… passive? It's wartime, I get it, but a little more fight would have been appreciated.

Still, it’s hard to criticize someone carrying so much pain. Poor Keiko.
Tetsu: The Childhood Friend
Ah, Tetsu. Suzu's childhood friend. The one that got away...or did he?
He felt kind of… forced? The movie tries so hard to make us think there's something there, but I just didn't buy it.
Maybe I'm just too attached to Suzu and Shusaku as a couple. Sorry, Tetsu!

The Side Characters: The Real Gems
Okay, now for the fun part! The side characters are where it’s at. They're often overlooked, but they bring the world to life.
The gossiping neighbors? Hilarious. The grumpy shopkeeper? Relatable. They add so much texture to the story.
Mrs. Morita: A Survivor
Mrs. Morita doesn’t get enough credit. The ultimate survivor. She keeps things going even when everything is falling apart.
She knows how to haggle, she knows how to gossip, and she knows how to make the best of a terrible situation.

Mrs. Morita is low-key my favorite character! She is the unsung hero of the neighborhood.
Final Thoughts
Look, I love In This Corner of the World. It's a masterpiece. But even masterpieces have characters that resonate more (or less) than others.
These are just my silly, insignificant opinions. Feel free to disagree! That's what makes discussing movies fun.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch it and probably change my mind about everything.
