In Another World With My Smartphone Ending

Okay, let’s talk about something that might make some people throw their smartphones at me. It’s about that isekai anime. You know, the one where a guy dies and gets to hang out in another world with, well, his smartphone?
The End of an Era (Or Was It?)
I’m talking about In Another World With My Smartphone. It finished. And… I’m not sad. Shocker, right?
Don't get me wrong. I understand the appeal. Who wouldn't want a do-over in a magical land, complete with a super-powered phone and a harem of adoring ladies?
Must Read
A Smartphone-Sized Problem
But here’s my (probably) unpopular opinion: it got a little… predictable. Like, "wake up, solve a minor problem with phone, girls fall for him more" kind of predictable. Rinse and repeat.
Every episode felt the same. It was like the anime equivalent of comfort food. But after a while, even comfort food can get boring.
Touya, our main guy, was just… too nice. Too perfect. He's ridiculously overpowered and barely breaks a sweat. Where's the struggle? Where's the tension?

I kept waiting for something major to happen. A real challenge. A genuine character flaw to emerge. But nope.
It's like the writers were afraid to make him relatable. They wanted him to be this flawless wish-fulfillment character. Which, I guess, is the point. But still.
The Harem Situation
And the harem? Don't even get me started. All those lovely ladies, falling head over heels for Touya. It's flattering for him, sure. But was there really any depth to their affections?

They seemed to exist solely to fawn over him. It felt more like a checklist than a genuine romance. Strong female characters? Kind of lacking.
I understand isekai often lean into the harem trope. But Smartphone really leaned hard. It felt almost... excessive.
The Smartphone Itself
Let's not forget the smartphone itself. It's a plot device that solves every problem. Need to translate ancient languages? Phone. Need to teleport? Phone. Need to summon powerful magic? You guessed it, phone.
It felt like the writers wrote themselves into a corner and said, "Eh, the phone can fix it!" Lazy writing at its finest?

I'm not saying it's a bad anime. It's perfectly watchable. Just… not particularly memorable.
So, What's the Point?
My point is, I wasn't heartbroken to see it end. I wasn't desperately waiting for a season two. (Though, knowing anime, it'll probably happen eventually.)
There are other isekai out there that offer a bit more substance. A bit more character development. A bit less… phone-based deus ex machina.

Maybe I’m just being a grumpy anime viewer. Maybe I expected too much. But honestly, I feel like In Another World With My Smartphone had potential that it never quite reached.
So, good riddance? Not exactly. But definitely not on my "must-watch-again" list. Sorry, Touya. I hope you and your phone are having a great time in your harem-filled paradise. I'm moving on to something else.
Bring on the angry comments! I'm ready for them. Let me know why you loved (or hated) In Another World With My Smartphone.
