I'm The Hero But The Demon Lord's Also Me

Okay, unpopular opinion time! We need to talk about something. I’m starting to think…being the Demon Lord? Kinda fun.

Don't get me wrong. Hero stuff is cool. Slaying dragons, saving princesses, the whole nine yards.

But sometimes… Sometimes I feel a little...Demon Lordy.

The Hero's Journey: It's A Grind

Let’s face it, the Hero gig is demanding. You're always "doing the right thing." Always smiling for the cameras.

And the quests! Oh, the quests. Fetch quests, escort quests, quests where you have to listen to some NPC drone on for twenty minutes. Is it just me, or are all villagers terrible?

Meanwhile, Demon Lord life seems… liberating. No one expects you to be nice. You can just lounge around your dark castle, plotting world domination.

Dark Side Perks (That No One Talks About)

Seriously, think about it. As the Hero, you have to wear shining armor. It’s heavy. It squeaks. It's not exactly the most comfortable battle attire.

The Demon Lord? Robes. Maybe some spikes. Maximum comfort, maximum intimidation. Plus, you get cool powers.

And the minions! As the Hero, your "minions" are usually just… villagers. Helpful, sure, but not exactly inspiring. The Demon Lord gets an army of goblins and undead. Now that's a support system!

The Hero always has to be morally upright. Save the kittens, help the elderly, blah blah blah. Where's the fun in that?

As the Demon Lord, you can be delightfully evil! Cause a little chaos. Maybe turn a town into frogs. Who's going to stop you? (Besides yourself, the Hero, but that's a problem for later).

Why The Double Life Though?

Maybe it's the thrill of the chase. The challenge of playing both sides. The existential dread of being destined to fight yourself for all eternity.

Okay, maybe that last one’s a bit much. But there's definitely something appealing about having the power to choose. To be good and evil.

It’s like having the ultimate cheat code to life, right? I mean, who wouldn't want to switch things up sometimes?

The Ultimate Question

So, am I saying being the Demon Lord is better than being the Hero? No. Not exactly.

What I am saying is that maybe we shouldn't judge the Demon Lord so harshly. Maybe they just want a little excitement in their lives. A little recognition. A little…chaos?

Maybe, just maybe, deep down, we all have a little Demon Lord inside us. Waiting to get out. Don't judge me.

Maybe being the Demon Lord isn't about destroying the world. Maybe it's about having a good time. And who can argue with that?

Also, their castles always have the best snacks. Just saying.

After all, isn't balance important? A little good, a little evil. The Hero and the Demon Lord. Perhaps two sides of the same awesome, slightly conflicted coin.
