I Never Made It As A Wise Man

So, here's a confession. I never made it as a wise man. Shocker, right? I always thought I’d be dispensing profound advice.

Turns out, I mostly dispense snacks. And opinions nobody asked for.

Wisdom? More Like... Wisenheimer

I pictured myself as some kind of modern-day Socrates. Calmly explaining the universe. But my attempts at wisdom often end with people rolling their eyes.

Instead of deep thoughts, I offer observations. Usually about the absurdity of online shopping or the questionable fashion choices of pigeons.

Maybe that's wisdom, in its own way? I doubt it.

The Great Advice-Giving Fiasco

I tried giving advice once. To my friend, Brenda. About her dating life.

It ended with her politely telling me to stick to discussing the merits of different types of cheese. Fair enough, Brenda. Fair enough.

Now I understand why some people get advice from fortune cookies instead.

My mother always said, "Think before you speak." I guess that's some kind of wisdom.

The Myth of the All-Knowing Adult

We're all just winging it, aren't we? Pretending to know things. Hoping nobody notices the duct tape holding our lives together.

I thought adulthood came with a manual. Turns out, it comes with a pile of bills and a growing sense of existential dread.

And yet, here I am, thinking I can offer some nuggets of wisdom.

Is Ignorance Bliss? Maybe.

Sometimes, I think being "wise" is overrated. Overthinking things leads to paralysis. Plus, there's a lot of really depressing stuff to know.

Sometimes, it is better not to know. Like when you are watching reality TV.

So, maybe ignorance is bliss. At least, until the next existential crisis hits.

Embracing the Imperfect Idiot

I've decided to embrace my inner imperfect idiot. The guy who spills coffee on himself. The guy who forgets where he parked.

I realized, It's okay not to have all the answers. Who needs all the answers?

Maybe that's the real wisdom. Accepting that you're a flawed human being. Laughing at yourself along the way.

The Power of Self-Deprecation

I've become a master of self-deprecation. It’s my defense mechanism. My way of disarming potential critics.

If I make fun of myself first, nobody else can, right?

It’s also surprisingly liberating. Self-deprecation is a great stress reliever.

So, What's the Point?

I guess my point is this: Don't strive to be a wise man. Strive to be a decent person. And, for goodness’ sake, try not to spill coffee on yourself.

Be kind, be compassionate, and maybe learn to parallel park. Because trust me, you will need to.

That's the best I can offer. Take it or leave it. I will be eating snacks.

After all, a full belly makes it easier to face the existential dread.

Or maybe I am just procrastinating on giving advice.
