I Can T Change Even If I Tried

Okay, let's be honest. We've all heard it before: "You can change if you really want to!" Sounds inspiring, right?
But sometimes, deep down, you just think, "Nah." I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: I can't change, even if I tried.
The Unpopular Truth
Maybe this is a deeply flawed, possibly even problematic, statement. But hear me out. We're all a little set in our ways.
Must Read
Take my love for terrible reality TV. Real Housewives is my guilty pleasure. I've been told countless times to broaden my horizons. Watch something intellectual.
I tried. I really, really tried. But give me shouting matches over a philosophical debate any day.
The Comfort Zone is Real
Changing habits is hard work. Like, really hard. My brain seems to actively fight it.

Remember that time I tried to become a morning person? It lasted approximately three days. Three miserable, coffee-fueled days.
Now, I embrace my night owl tendencies. Why fight it?
Embrace Your Quirks
We are all perfectly imperfect. So many self-help gurus preach constant self-improvement. But what if you're already… good enough?
I’m not advocating for stagnation! Just maybe some acceptance. A little self-compassion goes a long way. Besides, isn’t the world already trying to change us enough?

My friend, Brenda, is a prime example. She's a notorious procrastinator. But she's also the most creative person I know.
Could she be more productive if she changed? Maybe. But would she be Brenda? Probably not.
The Joy of the Familiar
There's something comforting about being yourself. Even if that "self" is a bit… quirky.
I always use the same mug every morning. It's chipped and faded. But it makes my coffee taste better. I refuse to change it.

Some people find joy in trying new things. I find joy in the reliable. The familiar. That’s just me.
Caveats and Considerations
Of course, there's a limit. This "I can't change" mantra shouldn't apply to genuinely harmful behaviors.
If you're hurting yourself or others, seek help. Please! My stance is about accepting harmless quirks and preferences. The ones that make you, you.
And even I admit, maybe "I can't change" is a bit dramatic. Perhaps "I'm choosing not to change… right now" is more accurate. There, I said it.

It's a Journey (Maybe)
Life is a journey of self-discovery. Maybe one day I'll suddenly crave opera. Or learn to love waking up at 5 AM.
But until then, I’ll be here. Watching Housewives. Drinking coffee from my chipped mug. And accepting my gloriously unchanging self.
So, the next time someone tries to "fix" you, smile. Politely nod. And then go do whatever makes you happy.
Unless it involves hurting others. Then maybe change a little bit. Just a little.
