How To Turn Off Nockturnal Lighted Nocks

How To Turn Off Nockturnal Lighted Nocks

Alright, friend, so you've joined the ranks of archers illuminated by the glorious glow of Nockturnal lighted nocks! Welcome to the party! They look awesome, right? Like little laser beams of archery awesomeness. But, like any good party, eventually, it has to end. And that means turning those little lights off.

Now, you might be staring at that nock thinking, "Seriously? How hard can this be?" Famous last words, my friend, famous last words. Trust me, I've seen experienced archers wrestle with these things like they're trying to solve a Rubik's Cube blindfolded. But fear not! I'm here to guide you through the darkness… or rather, out of the darkness, back into the land of unlit nocks. Hehe.

The 'Ol Reliable: The Nockturnal Tool

First things first, did your Nockturnal package come with that little orange (or sometimes green, they like to mix it up) tool? It looks like a tiny, oddly shaped wrench. If so, YOU ARE IN LUCK! This is your best friend. Seriously, frame it, cherish it, maybe even name it. I call mine "Nocky McTurnoff."

Here's how you use our friend Nocky McTurnoff:

  1. Find that tiny little slot on the side of the nock. It's usually near the back, closer to the string. It's sneaky, so look closely.
  2. Insert the tip of the Nockturnal tool into that slot. It should fit snugly.
  3. Gently, and I mean gently, pry the nock away from the shaft of the arrow. You’re essentially creating a tiny gap. This breaks the connection that powers the LED. Think of it like flicking a tiny light switch.
  4. Pop! Hopefully, your nock has now gone dark. If not, try again, but remember, gentle is the key! You don't want to break the nock.

Pro Tip: Don't go all Hercules on it. You're not trying to split the atom, just break a tiny electrical connection. Excessive force can damage the nock, and nobody wants that.

Uh Oh, No Tool? Don't Panic!

Okay, so Nocky McTurnoff has gone missing. Maybe the dog ate it, maybe it teleported to another dimension, who knows? But don't fret! There are other ways. You just need a little ingenuity and a few common household items. Okay, maybe not household items, unless you have a very archery-centric household.

The "Pocket Knife/Arrow Point" Method

Caution: Be extremely careful with this method! We're dealing with sharp objects here, folks. Safety first! I don't want any emails saying, "I followed your advice and now I'm missing a finger!" So, proceed with caution and common sense.

This method involves using a small pocketknife or the tip of another arrow (again, CAREFULLY!) to create that same tiny gap between the nock and the arrow shaft. The process is similar to using the Nockturnal tool:

  1. Locate that sneaky slot on the side of the nock.
  2. Very gently, insert the tip of the knife or arrow into the slot.
  3. Pry the nock away from the shaft. Remember, gentle!

Warning! If you're using an arrow point, make sure you're holding the arrow securely and away from your body. And maybe wear some gloves. Just saying. A little extra precaution never hurt anyone.

The "Firm Surface" Trick

This is a bit of a finesse move, and it works best if the nock is only lightly engaged.

  1. Find a firm, flat surface. A wooden table works well. Avoid anything that could damage your arrow or the nock itself.
  2. Hold the arrow shaft firmly in one hand.
  3. Position the nock so that the edge of the nock closest to the arrow shaft rests on the edge of the firm surface.
  4. Apply gentle downward pressure on the arrow shaft, using the edge of the surface as a fulcrum to slightly separate the nock from the shaft. The goal is to just break the connection.

Important Considerations

  • Always double-check that the nock is completely off before storing your arrows. You don't want to drain the battery unnecessarily.
  • If you're having extreme difficulty, the nock might be damaged or stuck. In that case, it's best to consult with a professional at your local archery shop. They have seen it all!

So there you have it! You are now a Nockturnal-nock-turning-off master! Go forth and conquer the darkness (or, you know, just turn off your arrow lights). Just remember to be patient, be gentle, and maybe invest in a spare Nockturnal tool. You never know when Nocky McTurnoff might decide to take a vacation to another dimension. Happy shooting!
