How To Setup Wifi On Vizio Tv Without Remote

Lost your Vizio remote? Don't panic! We've all been there. Let’s get that Wi-Fi working. Without that pesky remote, of course.

The "Secret" Buttons: Vizio's Built-In Controls

Did you know your TV has buttons? Shocking, I know. They're usually hiding on the back or side of the TV.

Feel around. You're hunting for buttons labeled something exciting like "Menu," "Input," or "Power." Prepare for a little button mashing.

First, power on your TV using the "Power" button. Then, channel your inner ninja. Start pressing that "Menu" or "Input" button.

Keep pressing. Eventually, the TV menu should appear. It might take a few tries. Don't give up!

Navigating with just these buttons is… an experience. We're talking a slow experience.

The "Input" button might cycle through options. "Menu" usually brings up a settings screen. Think of it as TV button yoga.

Once in the menu, hunt for "Network" or "Setup". It might be under "Settings." Vizio likes to keep us on our toes.

Here's my (unpopular) opinion: the Vizio SmartCast Mobile app is a lifesaver. Seriously.

Download it. Yes, on your phone. It's free, thankfully. And surprisingly useful.

Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network (the one you want your TV on, eventually!). Open the app and hope it finds your TV.

The app will likely ask you to pair with your TV. If your TV and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network it will auto pair with your Vizio TV.

If successful, you now have a virtual remote. With a keyboard! Hallelujah!

Navigate to "Settings" and then "Network" in the app. Now you can actually see what you're doing.

Select your Wi-Fi network. Enter your password using the on-screen keyboard. Rejoice in the modern convenience.

Be careful typing that password. One wrong letter and you're back to square one. I've learned that the hard way.

Cross your fingers. The TV should connect to Wi-Fi. Victory is yours!

Okay, this is a long shot. But some TVs have HDMI-CEC. It allows devices to control each other.

If you have a device connected via HDMI (like a game console or streaming stick), it might be able to control your TV. "Might" is the key word.

Turn on HDMI-CEC on your other device. (Check your device's manual for instructions.)

See if that device can control your Vizio's menu. If it does, you can use its remote to connect to Wi-Fi. A total gamble, but worth a try.

Setting up Wi-Fi without a remote is not ideal. It's annoying. Vizio, maybe include a spare remote?

But hey, you did it! You conquered the Wi-Fi beast. Now go binge-watch something. You deserve it.
