Hey there, fellow island decorator! Ever stare longingly at other players' amazing custom designs in Animal Crossing and think, "Ugh, I wish I could do that!"? Well, guess what? You CAN! And it's not as scary as you think. Seriously, even I figured it out. And that's saying something.
Let's dive into getting those sweet, sweet custom design kits, shall we? It's easier than catching a sea bass, I promise (okay, maybe not that easy, but close!).
Unlocking Your Inner Picasso (or at least a halfway decent pixel artist)
First things first, you need to unlock the Able Sisters tailor shop. I mean, duh, right? But hey, gotta cover all the bases! You’ll need to spend a little bit of money with Mabel when she visits your island as a vendor. I think it's around 5,000 bells? Just buy a bunch of stuff! Who doesn't love new clothes anyway?

Once you've sufficiently enabled your shopping addiction and showered Mabel with bells, she'll decide to open up shop permanently. Hooray for fashion! (And hooray for custom designs! But mostly fashion…kidding! ...Mostly.)
So, the Able Sisters are on your island - now what? Well, mosey on in and head over to the glorious Custom Design Kiosk. It's in the back corner, you can't miss it. Looks like a big ol' screen, just waiting for your creative genius (or, you know, a slightly less-than-genius attempt at a cool pattern).
The Nitty Gritty: Nook Miles to the Rescue!
Here's the catch (there's always a catch, isn't there?). You need to unlock the actual ability to use the kiosk for sharing your designs or downloading others' creations. This requires Nook Miles. Sigh. More chores, I know. But trust me, it’s worth it.
Head over to the Nook Stop terminal in Resident Services (that big ATM-looking thing Tom Nook is always lurking near) and browse the "Redeem Nook Miles" section. Look for the "Custom Design Pro Editor+" option. It costs 800 Nook Miles.
Is it just me, or does Tom Nook always find a way to get our Miles? Seriously, that raccoon capitalist... Anyway!
Embrace the Pixelated Possibilities!
Okay, you've got the Pro Editor! You're officially ready to rock some custom designs. Now, when you use the Custom Design Kiosk, you'll have the option to either:
- Upload your own designs: Show off your incredible (or hilariously terrible) creations to the world!
- Download other players' designs: This is where the magic happens! Search by creator ID or design ID to find exactly what you're looking for.
Pro Tip: There are tons of websites and social media groups dedicated to sharing Animal Crossing custom designs. A quick Google search will open up a whole world of possibilities!
Important note: To actually USE the designs you download, you’ll need to access them through your NookPhone. Open the Custom Designs app, select the design you want, and then choose what you want to do with it. You can use them for clothing, furniture, canvas, etc.
