How Old Is Goku When He Meets Bulma
Let's talk Dragon Ball! Specifically, young Goku. And the ever-stylish Bulma. We all know how they met. It was the start of an epic adventure.
The Age-Old Question (Literally)
How old was Goku, anyway? Official sources say 12. Twelve years old! But… does that really hold up?
Here's my (probably) unpopular opinion. I don't buy the 12-year-old thing. At least, not in the way we normally understand it.

Goku lives in the mountains. He’s totally isolated. He has zero social skills. He acts much younger than a typical 12-year-old.
Think about it! Most 12-year-olds are hitting puberty. They’re navigating friendships and crushes. Goku? He’s wondering if Bulma’s a monster.
He doesn't know what girls are. He doesn't know what clothes are. His grandpa basically raised him in the wilderness.
He also thinks a car is a monster. The way he speaks, acts, and generally interacts with the world just screams "younger" to me.
My (Slightly Ridiculous) Theory
Okay, here's where I lose some of you. I think chronologically, he is 12. But mentally? Emotionally? He's closer to 8 or 9.
I am not saying he's dumb. Just… underdeveloped in the social and emotional departments. Blame Grandpa Gohan (affectionately, of course!).
He’s spent his life fighting and hunting. Book smarts and street smarts? Nah. He only has fighting skills.
Evidence (Kind Of)
Remember the scene with the bunny gang? Goku’s reaction is pure, unadulterated childlike wonder. A 12-year-old trying to act tough might feign indifference. Goku? He's fascinated.
And what about his unwavering trust in pretty much everyone? A true 12-year-old has already learned to be at least a little skeptical of strangers.
"You mean, I can eat as much as I want?" - Probably said by an 8 year-old Goku.
His naiveté is endearing. But it also makes me raise an eyebrow at the official age.
The Final Verdict
So, is Goku really 12 when he meets Bulma? Technically, yes. But in my headcanon? He's a wildly powerful, adorable kid who's just discovering the world.
Maybe it’s just wishful thinking. Maybe I just want to protect this innocent little Saiyan. He's precious!
He's like a puppy dog who can fire energy beams. Who wouldn't love that?
Ultimately, it doesn't really matter. The important thing is the adventure that follows. Goku meeting Bulma started it all.
