How Many Volumes Of Tokyo Ghoul Are There

Okay, let's talk Tokyo Ghoul. Great series, right? But how many darn volumes are there actually?
The Initial Feast: Tokyo Ghoul
First, you've got the OG series. You know, the one that started it all. Good ol' Ken Kaneki's transformation and whatnot.
That's a manageable 14 volumes. Fourteen! Easy to remember, right? Wrong. Welcome to the wonderful world of manga sequels.
Must Read
Fourteen feels short, though. It's like, just as things are getting good... BAM! It ends.
A Re:ally Long Sequel: Tokyo Ghoul:re
Then comes Tokyo Ghoul:re. This is where things get... complicated. And by complicated, I mean LONG.
It's basically a whole new story. New characters, new problems, new existential dread. And lots of white hair.
Here's the kicker: Tokyo Ghoul:re clocks in at 16 volumes. Sixteen! That's even MORE than the original!

I'll admit, sometimes I forgot what was going on in :re. Anyone else?
So, How Many Volumes Total? (The Math Hurts)
Alright, time for some math. (Don't worry, it's simple.) We've got 14 volumes of Tokyo Ghoul plus 16 volumes of Tokyo Ghoul:re.
That brings us to a grand total of 30 volumes. Thirty! That's a lot of ghouls and coffee.
Think about it: 30 volumes taking up shelf space! My bookcase weeps.

But Wait, There's More (Side Stories and Extras!)
Of course, it doesn't end there. There are spin-offs and side stories. Things like Tokyo Ghoul: Jack and Tokyo Ghoul: Void.
These are usually single volumes or short collections. Great for filling in gaps in the story, but...
Let's be honest, are they ESSENTIAL? I'd argue... not really. Unpopular opinion, maybe.
I skipped them. Don't judge me!

The Unpopular Opinion Zone
Here's where I get controversial. Prepare yourselves.
While I love the world of Tokyo Ghoul, :re felt... unnecessary.
It kind of dragged on.I said it!
The original 14 volumes were perfect. A complete story. Mic drop.
I'm not saying :re was bad. There were some great moments. And Haise Sasaki was interesting.

But did we NEED 16 more volumes? Debatable.
Maybe I'm just lazy and didn't want to read that much. Possible. Very possible.
So, yeah, 30 volumes (plus extras). But in my heart, Tokyo Ghoul is just 14 volumes. Don't @ me.
Am I alone in thinking this? Probably. But hey, at least now you know how many volumes you're getting into!
