Okay, let's get real. Did anyone else feel like Season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale was about five seasons crammed into one? I swear, I needed a spreadsheet to keep track of all the twists.

Seriously, one minute June Osborne is public enemy number one, the next she's… well, still kind of public enemy number one, but with more agency. And a lot more vengeful stares.

The Great Escape (and Re-Escape)

Remember when June finally made it to Canada? We all cheered. We thought, "Finally, some peace!" Silly us.

Canada turned out to be less about maple syrup and more about PTSD and simmering rage. Oh, and plotting the downfall of Gilead, one tiny act of rebellion at a time.

It felt like a whole mini-season just watching June adjust (or not adjust) to freedom. Then, BAM! Back to Gilead for another rescue mission. My head was spinning.

Aunt Lydia's Redemption (Attempt)

And what about Aunt Lydia? One minute she’s torturing handmaids, the next she’s… kind of regretting it? Or at least justifying it in her own twisted way.

Her backstory felt like a whole separate prequel series crammed into a few episodes. We got flashbacks, we got guilt, we got questionable motivations. It was a lot to process.

I'm not saying Aunt Lydia is suddenly a good guy. But Season 4 definitely tried to humanize her. Jury's still out on whether it worked, though.

The Waterford Saga

Let's not forget the never-ending saga of Commander Waterford. Did he die? Did he escape? Did he somehow clone himself? I honestly couldn't keep up.

His trial, his escape, his capture, his… ultimate demise. Each event felt like a season finale in itself. They really milked that storyline, didn't they?

And the "justice" June delivered? Let's just say it was… impactful. And probably warranted. But still, it felt like a whole season's worth of emotional turmoil condensed into one shocking moment.

My Unpopular Opinion (Maybe?)

So, here's my confession: I think Season 4 could have easily been split into two, maybe even three, shorter, more focused seasons.

Imagine: One season focusing on June's escape and adjustment to Canada. Another detailing her return to Gilead. And maybe even a third dedicated to the fallout from Waterford's death.

Okay, maybe that's too much. But you get my point. Season 4 was packed. I needed a break (and maybe a therapy session) after each episode.

Was It Good? Absolutely. Was It Overstuffed? Debatable.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Season 4. The acting was phenomenal. The writing (mostly) kept me on the edge of my seat. And the themes were as relevant as ever.

But I couldn't help but feel like they were trying to cram too much story into too few episodes. I mean, I needed time to process all that trauma, okay?

Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m just a slow processor. But I’m still convinced that Season 4 secretly contained at least two, possibly three, hidden seasons within its chaotic depths.
