How Many Seasons Of Full Metal Alchemist

Okay, let's talk Fullmetal Alchemist. Specifically, how many seasons this masterpiece has. It's a simple question, right? Not so fast!
Because, let's be honest, things get weird when you factor in Fullmetal Alchemist (the OG) and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. This is my unpopular opinion, get ready.
The "Official" Answer
Most people will tell you Brotherhood has one season. It ran continuously, so that kinda makes sense. Streaming services will also say the original Fullmetal Alchemist has one season.
Must Read
Fine. Technically correct. But is it satisfying? Absolutely not!
My Hot Take: It's More Than One Season!
Here's where I stir the pot. Each distinct arc feels like a season. Don't you think?
Think about it. You've got the early stuff with the Elric brothers starting out. Then things get super dark with Shou Tucker, that's gotta be a season.

After that, you have the search for Scar. Scar’s plot makes it a season on its own! I said what I said.
Let's not forget the whole Ishval Civil War reveal! It feels narratively distinct enough to warrant its own mini-season. The impact of learning that history is huge.
Brotherhood Complicates Things Further
Brotherhood follows the manga more closely, yes. But it still has distinct phases. The early introduction of characters, the military intrigue...it’s all different arcs!

The arrival of the other homunculi! Major turning point, feels like a season change! Do you see where I'm going?
And then there's the journey north. Briggs and Olivier Mira Armstrong appear, that storyline is good enough for a season! No debate.
Finally, the all-out war with Father and his plans. Massive scale, epic battles...definitely a season! The ending stretches into another season!
So, How Many Seasons Really?
Officially? One per series. But in my heart? More like five or six distinct seasons.

Each with its own feel, villain, and focus. Fullmetal Alchemist gives us so much storytelling, condensing it into just one season each seems criminal!
Maybe I'm just trying to justify rewatching it over and over. But I don't think so. The shifts in tone and narrative are just too pronounced.
Do you agree? Do you think Fullmetal Alchemist deserves to be broken down into smaller, more digestible seasons? Let me know!

Maybe we can start a petition! Or, you know, just rewatch it again from the beginning. That always works.
At least, we can all agree, regardless of season count, both versions are anime masterpieces. Right?
Okay, now time for a rewatch. Join me?
