How Many Seasons Are There Of Black Butler

Okay, let's talk Black Butler. It's got demons, butlers, and Victorian England. Sounds simple enough, right?

Then you start counting seasons. And... things get complicated.

How Many Seasons Actually Exist?

This is where the fun begins! Officially? Most folks will say there are 3 seasons. Plus a bunch of OVAs (Original Video Animations) and movies. Sounds straightforward, doesn't it?

But I'm here to tell you: it's not.

The "Official" Count

Season 1 of Black Butler is a classic. We meet Ciel Phantomhive and his demonic butler, Sebastian Michaelis. Their deal? Revenge, then Sebastian gets Ciel's soul. Spooky stuff!

Season 2... well, that's where my "unpopular opinion" comes in. It introduces Alois Trancy and Claude Faustus. Completely new characters.

And the story? It kind of ignores the first season's ending. It retcons (retroactive continuity) things. I'm not a fan!

The Season 2 Debate

Many fans pretend Season 2 doesn't exist. I'm right there with them. It's like a weird alternate universe episode that went on way too long.

Don't get me wrong, Alois is interesting. But he just doesn't fit into the story smoothly for me. The whole thing feels... forced.

For me, the real season 2 is Black Butler: Book of Circus! It's based directly on a popular manga arc. Way better.

So, What's My "Unpopular" Opinion?

Here it is: There are only two seasons of Black Butler. Season 1 and Book of Circus. That's it.

Book of Murder is a great two-part OVA. I count it as part of the Book of Circus experience. Like an extended cut.

And Book of Atlantic? That's a fantastic movie. It's also based on the manga and keeps the story consistent. So, good in my books!

Forget Season 2?

Okay, okay, I'm being dramatic. Season 2 does exist. Officially.

But for my personal enjoyment? I skip it. I pretend it's a fever dream.
