How Many Season Of Tokyo Ghoul Are There

Okay, let's talk about something near and dear to my heart: Tokyo Ghoul. Specifically, how many seasons are there? This feels like a simple question, right?
Well, buckle up, buttercup, because it's about to get a little... complicated. Prepare for a rollercoaster of conflicting information and opinions!
The "Official" Count
If you ask Google, it will probably tell you there are four seasons. Sounds straightforward enough, doesn't it? We have Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo Ghoul √A, Tokyo Ghoul:re, and Tokyo Ghoul:re 2nd Season.
Must Read
Seems cut and dry. Case closed! Right? Wrong!
My (Possibly Unpopular) Opinion
Here's where I throw a wrench in the works. I'm going to say it: I only acknowledge two real seasons of Tokyo Ghoul.
Hold on! Don't throw your ghoulish masks at me just yet! Let me explain.

The first season, Tokyo Ghoul, is fantastic. It introduced us to Kaneki, the ghouls, and the world. We were hooked!
Then came Tokyo Ghoul √A. This is where things started to go...off the rails. It deviated from the manga quite a bit.
"√A" stands for "Root A," implying a branching path from the original story. But some people just think it stands for "Absolutely Awful Adaptation."

It became a confusing mess for those who hadn't read the manga. Characters acted strangely, and the plot took a weird detour.
The Re:Boot (Or Not?)
Then we have Tokyo Ghoul:re and its second season. These seasons attempt to adapt the sequel manga series. It's like a do-over, but not really?
Look, I appreciate the effort. But trying to cram so much content into so few episodes? It just didn't work for me.
Important plot points are rushed. Character development feels shallow. It's like trying to eat a whole pizza in one bite. Delicious, but ultimately unsatisfying and maybe a little painful.

So, Why Just Two Seasons?
Here's my reasoning: Only the first season truly captures the essence of Tokyo Ghoul for me. It's the only one that feels like a complete and satisfying story, even with its own changes from the manga.
The other seasons, while technically part of the franchise, are... well, let's just say I consider them "alternate realities." Nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
Perhaps the animation studio Pierrot were under pressure to produce more seasons regardless of source materials integrity, or some other business decisions.

A Final Thought (And a Plea)
This is just my humble (and perhaps controversial) opinion. You are absolutely free to disagree! Maybe you loved every single season. That's totally cool!
I will always have a soft spot for Tokyo Ghoul, even with its flaws. The characters, the themes, the dark and twisted world...it all grabbed me from the very beginning.
Maybe someday, someone will give Tokyo Ghoul:re the faithful adaptation it deserves. Until then, I'll stick to my two "official" seasons. And maybe reread the manga...again.
So, how many seasons are there? According to me, it's complicated...and ultimately, subjective! What do you think?
