Okay, let's talk Planet of the Apes. You know, the films where monkeys are smarter than us. Or at least, they think they are. How many of these movies are there, really?

These are classics. No arguments here. They're cheesy, thought-provoking, and full of apes in surprisingly effective makeup.
The Burton Blunder: One We Try to Forget
Then came Planet of the Apes (2001), directed by Tim Burton. Let's be honest, it's not good. Mark Wahlberg punching apes? Lisa Marie as a fancy ape lady?
Many fans try to pretend this film never happened. Including maybe Tim Burton himself.
The Rise of the Apes: A Modern Trilogy
Finally, we have the reboot trilogy. Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. And War for the Planet of the Apes. These are actually pretty great.
Andy Serkis as Caesar is a motion-capture masterpiece. The stories are compelling. The special effects are amazing.
But Wait, There's More (Maybe)!
So, nine movies, right? Not so fast!
What about all the TV shows? There was a live-action series in the 70s. Plus, an animated series. Do these count?
My Unpopular Opinion: It's a Universe, Not Just Movies
Here's where I go rogue. I think we need to consider the entire Planet of the Apes universe. It's bigger than just the films.
The comics, the books, the games...it all adds to the mythology. So, to me, saying there are only nine movies is like saying there are only a few Star Wars movies. It ignores the bigger picture.
The "Real" Number: It Depends on Your Definition
So, how many Planet of the Apes movies are there? If you're a purist, maybe it's just the nine theatrical releases. If you're like me, it's an ever-expanding number.
It's a universe constantly evolving. And that's what makes it so cool, I think.
Ultimately, who's counting? As long as the apes keep talking, the story keeps evolving. And we keep watching.
