How Many Episodes Of What If In Season 1

Okay, let's talk What If...? Season 1. How many episodes were there? Nine. Nine little trips into alternate realities.
But Were There Really Nine?
Here's my unpopular opinion. I don't think there were actually nine episodes. Hear me out!
The Problem with Anthology Formats
Anthologies are tricky, right? Each episode is a self-contained story. It's like a collection of short films.
Must Read
So, while technically there are nine separate entries, did they all hit the mark? Did they all truly feel like necessary pieces of a whole season?
Some Episodes Felt...Skimmable?
Let's be honest. Some episodes were amazing! Others? Well, let's just say I didn't re-watch them five times.
Did anyone really need to see Peggy Carter fall for a hydra stomper? Or T'challa become a Guardian of the Galaxy?

The Pacing Issue
Nine episodes felt... rushed. We barely got to sink our teeth into some of these realities. It was like speed-dating with the multiverse.
Imagine if each "What If...?" scenario got two or three episodes. We could really explore the ramifications! Dive deeper into the characters' motivations.
The Watcher's Role (Or Lack Thereof)
The Watcher, voiced by the wonderful Jeffrey Wright, was our guide. He was supposed to be observing. But sometimes, his involvement felt... shoehorned in.

His transformation from observer to participant happened so quickly. It felt a bit unearned, in my humble opinion.
Quality Over Quantity, Please!
I'd rather have six absolutely stellar episodes. Than nine that are a mixed bag. Give me fewer, but make them count!
"Less is more," some wise person probably once said.
So, How Many Should There Have Been?
If it were up to me? Seven. Seven perfectly crafted tales.

Cut the weaker ones. Expand on the stronger ones. And give the Watcher a more natural, organic arc.
It's Just My Opinion, Of Course
Look, I love Marvel. I love exploring the multiverse. And What If...? had some genuinely brilliant moments.
But I can't help feeling like the first season was a little overstuffed. It tried to do too much, too quickly. Resulting to episodes that are rushed and can be skippable.

Looking Ahead to Season 2
Hopefully, Season 2 will learn from Season 1's missteps. More focus, better pacing, and truly impactful stories. We can only hope!
Fewer episodes? Maybe. As long as they're all awesome!
The Final Verdict
So, technically, yes, there were nine episodes. But in my heart? I choose to believe there were fewer. Just the really good ones.
Agree? Disagree? Let me know your thoughts! It's all just a bit of fun, after all.
