How Many Episodes Of Dragon Ball Z Super

Okay, let's talk Dragon Ball Super. Specifically, the number of episodes. It's a tricky subject. Brace yourselves for some potentially controversial opinions.
So, How Many Episodes Are There?
Officially? One hundred and thirty-one. That's what the internet tells us. That's what the streaming services claim. But is that really how many episodes we got?
Hear Me Out…
Think about it. How many episodes are actually essential? I'm not saying any are bad. (Okay, maybe a few are a little...slow.)
Must Read
But let's be honest. A significant chunk felt like stretching things out. Powering up animations lasting entire episodes, anyone? We all love a good scream, but come on!
The Tournament of Power was epic. Truly. But did it need forty-plus episodes? I'm just asking questions here. Unpopular questions, perhaps.
"It's about the journey, not the destination!"Someone probably said that. And maybe they’re right! But the journey had some very scenic routes, you know?

My Unpopular Opinion (Prepare Yourselves)
I think Dragon Ball Super could have been tighter. More focused. Dare I say...shorter? Gasp!
Imagine if the story was condensed. Maybe cut out some of the filler fights. What if the power-ups were a little less drawn out?
We could have had a lean, mean, fighting machine of a series. A super-condensed, ultra-powerful Dragon Ball Super experience.

I'm not saying remove any of the story beats. Keep the characters. Keep the epic battles. Just...trim the fat a little.
The "Real" Episode Count
So, how many episodes should there have been? This is where it gets subjective. Wildly subjective. I'm thinking... maybe around 80-90?
That's just my gut feeling. Based on absolutely no scientific data. Just pure, unadulterated personal preference.
Imagine that: 80-90 episodes of pure, distilled Dragon Ball goodness. Every episode a banger. No wasted time. Constant action. Shivers.

Okay, okay, maybe that's a little unrealistic. But a guy can dream, right?
The Important Stuff: We Still Love It
Despite my potential gripes, I still love Dragon Ball Super. Beerus is hilarious. Goku's still...Goku. The transformations are awesome.
The villains were genuinely threatening (most of them, anyway). And the animation, when it's good, is really good. Remember Ultra Instinct? Goosebumps!

So, even if it could have been shorter, I wouldn't trade it. It gave us some amazing moments. Moments we’ll talk about for years to come.
It brought back a franchise we all grew up with. For that, I’m eternally grateful. I just might skip a few episodes on my next re-watch.
Ultimately, the "correct" number of episodes is whatever number makes you happy. Watch them all. Skip some. It's your Dragon Ball experience.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-watch the Goku vs. Jiren fight. (But maybe fast-forward through a few of the power-ups.)
