How Many Episodes Of Death Note Are There

Okay, let's talk Death Note. You know, the anime where a notebook can, well, let's just say it solves problems. And the burning question is: how many episodes can we binge?
The Official Number: 37
The internet will tell you, in its vast and know-it-all wisdom, that there are 37 episodes. Thirty-seven chances to watch Light Yagami descend into, shall we say, a bit of a control freak. Seems straightforward, right?
But is it really? I mean, have you really watched all 37 episodes and felt completely satisfied? Or did something...feel off?

The "Problem" With the Second Half
Here's where my unpopular opinion comes in. Buckle up. I think Death Note, in its purest, most nail-biting form, is actually shorter than 37 episodes.
Hear me out! The first half, with L, is pure gold. Every episode is a chess match of wits. We're glued to our screens, munching popcorn, and screaming internally at Light.

Then...things change. L is gone. New characters appear. The plot gets a little... complicated. For some, it still works. For others (like me!), it’s a bit of a letdown.
My Controversial Take: It's Two Seasons!
I secretly believe Death Note should be considered two separate "seasons." Season 1: The L Saga. Season 2: ...well, the rest.
If you stopped watching after a certain point, I wouldn’t blame you. In my mind, the core, iconic story wraps up much earlier than episode 37.

Think of it this way: you're enjoying a delicious cake. Then someone adds a bunch of weird toppings that, while technically edible, just don't taste as good. You'd still say you ate cake, but wouldn't you prefer just the first part?
So, How Many Episodes Really Matter?
This is where it gets subjective. If you enjoyed the entire series, all 37 episodes are canon for you. Fantastic! Binge away!

But if you're like me, and the later episodes just didn't capture the same magic, maybe those later episodes are more like bonus content.
Maybe the "real" Death Note is closer to, say, 25 episodes? I'm just throwing it out there.
Ultimately, the number of "essential" episodes is up to you. Watch what you enjoy, skip what you don't. It's your anime journey.
Don't Get Me Wrong, It's Still Great!
Despite my… opinions… Death Note is a masterpiece. The animation, the music, the voice acting, all top-notch.

It's a series that stays with you long after the credits roll. Just… maybe skip a few credits if you're feeling rebellious.
So, go forth and enjoy Death Note! Watch all 37 episodes. Or don't! Just remember: the power to choose… is yours.
And maybe, just maybe, agree with my totally sane and reasonable opinion.
