How Many Episodes In Your Lie In April

Okay, let's talk Your Lie in April. That tearjerker anime everyone loves.
Specifically, how many episodes does it actually have?
The Official Number: 22 Episodes
Yup, officially, Your Lie in April clocks in at 22 episodes. Twenty-two chances to reach for the tissues.
Must Read
Twenty-two opportunities to question all your life choices.
But here's the thing...does it feel like 22?
My Unpopular Opinion: It Feels Like 40!
Don't @ me! I love Your Lie in April, I really do. But sometimes, it feels like each episode is approximately three hours long.
All those dramatic piano scenes. The lingering shots of cherry blossoms. The endless internal monologues.

Beautiful, yes. Concise? Not always.
Maybe it's the emotional weight. Maybe it's because I had to pause every five minutes to compose myself.
Whatever the reason, 22 episodes feels like an understatement.
Let's Break it Down (Kind Of)
Okay, maybe "40" is an exaggeration. A slight one.
But think about it. There are the competition arcs. Each performance could easily be split into its own mini-episode.

Then you have the character development arcs. Kousei's struggles, Kaori's zest for life, Tsubaki's…well, Tsubaki's Tsubaki-ness.
Each relationship arc deserves its own season!
And then...that ending. That beautiful, heartbreaking ending. That alone felt like a five-episode mini-series.
It's like the anime creators were trying to cram as much emotion as humanly possible into each frame.
"If we don't make them cry until their eyes are swollen shut, we haven't done our jobs!"
- Probably some anime producer.

The Real Question: Are 22 Episodes Enough?
Honestly? No. No, they are not.
I needed at least 50 more episodes of Kousei learning to love the piano again. And of Kaori being unapologetically herself.
And maybe one episode where everyone just goes to a karaoke bar and belts out terrible J-Pop.
Is that too much to ask?
Fine, fine, I get it. "Quality over quantity," blah blah blah.

But sometimes, you just want more time with characters you love (even if they do make you sob uncontrollably).
So, yeah, Your Lie in April has 22 episodes. But in my heart, it has a whole lot more. A whole lot more tears, and a whole lot more emotional investment.
Am I alone in feeling this way? Probably not.
Let me know in the comments if you also think Your Lie in April secretly contains 100 episodes hidden within its beautifully animated frames.
Or if you think I'm completely insane. Either way is fine.
