How Many Episodes In Walking Dead Season 10

Okay, let's talk about zombies. And specifically, The Walking Dead. We're here to discuss Season 10. Prepare yourself; some of my opinions are… spicy.
So, How Many Episodes Were There?
The big question. Drumroll, please! Season 10 of The Walking Dead boasts a whopping 22 episodes. Yep, you read that right. Twenty-two slices of zombie-filled drama.
That's a lot of walkers, a lot of talking, and a lot of questionable decisions from characters we love (and sometimes love to hate).
Must Read
But Wait, There's a Twist!
This season is a bit of a Frankenstein's monster. It was originally planned to have only 16 episodes. Thanks, COVID-19! Production delays led to an extended season. Six extra episodes were tacked on later.
These bonus episodes were meant to bridge the gap between Season 10 and Season 11. More time with our favorite survivors? Sure!
My (Unpopular) Opinion
Now, here's where things get interesting. I think those extra six episodes of Season 10? Overrated. Controversial, I know. Throw tomatoes if you must.

Listen, I love The Walking Dead as much as the next person. But those extra episodes felt... slow. They focused on smaller character arcs. I was craving more Negan mayhem!
Don't get me wrong, some character development is good. But were they really necessary? Some characters had already gone through enough, right?
"With great power comes great responsibility" - Uncle Ben (and kinda applies to zombie show writers with extra episodes)

The Pacing Problem
The pacing of those added episodes felt off. The main storyline kinda stalled. It was like a filler arc in an anime. It was hard to stay focused.
Remember that cliffhanger at the end of the original 16 episodes? The tension was palpable! The extra episodes dulled that feeling for me.
What Could Have Been?
Imagine if those six extra episodes had been incorporated into Season 11 instead. We could have had a much more robust final season. Think about it!
Season 11 could have been a true epic. So many possibilities wasted!

Let's Talk Characters
I'll admit, some character moments were great. Seeing Maggie back was awesome. Negan's struggles with his past? Compelling.
But were they worth six entire episodes? Maybe not. It's not that I dislike these characters. It's that I thought the episodes could have done more.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh. Maybe I just wanted more zombie action. Who am I kidding? Of course I did!

The Verdict
So, yes, Season 10 of The Walking Dead has 22 episodes. And that's a lot of time to spend with the undead. But quantity doesn't always equal quality. I enjoyed the beginning of the season more.
Do I regret watching those extra episodes? No. Did they live up to the hype? For me, not really.
But hey, that's just my opinion. Feel free to disagree. Let me know your thoughts!
Maybe I just need to rewatch them. Or maybe I just need more Negan. It's probably the Negan thing.
