How Many Episodes In Season Five Of Billions

Alright, let's talk Billions. Season five, specifically. You know, the one that felt like it lasted approximately... well, a billion years?
So, how many episodes were actually in that season? Buckle up, because the answer is a little twisty.
The Grand Total (Eventually)
Officially, season five of Billions boasts 12 episodes. Yes, twelve. Sounds simple, right?
Must Read
Wrong! It aired in two parts. Remember that long wait in between?
The Great Pause of 2020
The first seven episodes dropped in 2020. Then...bam! Cliffhanger and radio silence.
COVID hit, productions halted, and we were left wondering what the heck Axe and Prince were going to do next. It was agony!
Seriously, did anyone else re-watch those first seven episodes like, five times while waiting?

The Big Finish (Finally!)
Finally, in 2021, the remaining five episodes arrived. Hallelujah!
So technically, it was one season. But emotionally? It was two separate TV events.
That mid-season break felt like a whole other season in itself, right?
My Unpopular Opinion
Okay, here’s my hot take. And feel free to disagree, I can take it (probably).
That season felt... uneven. Like two different writing teams tackled each half.

The momentum just wasn't the same after that enormous break, you know?
The first seven episodes had that classic Billions energy. Cutthroat deals, witty banter, and moral ambiguity galore.
Then the last five...they felt... different. Maybe a little rushed? A little less... Billions-y?
Don't get me wrong, still enjoyable! But something was off. Maybe it was the production challenges. Maybe it was the plot. Who knows!

The Axe-it and The Prince Era
Of course, season five was also a turning point. We saw the seeds of Axe's departure being planted.
Michael Prince was solidifying himself as a major player. That change shifted the dynamic of the entire show.
And honestly, I miss Axe! Anyone else with me? Prince is fine, but Axe was just… Axe.
He was the original chaotic good/evil mastermind we loved to hate (and secretly admired a little).
So, Was It Good?
Ultimately, season five of Billions was... complicated.

Twelve episodes, two distinct halves, and a major character shift.
While not my absolute favorite season, it definitely had its moments.
And let's be honest, even a slightly-off episode of Billions is still better than most things on TV.
Right? Just nod. We can agree on that, at least.
Now, excuse me while I go re-watch the first three seasons and pretend everything is perfect in the Billions universe. Anyone care to join?
