How Many Episodes In Season 1 Of The Fall

Okay, let's talk about The Fall. Specifically, Season 1. How many episodes were there, really?
Was It Five? Or Was It Six?
Most people will confidently say five. They'll tell you it's five episodes. End of story, right?
But wait! Is that really true? Did they actually count right back then? I am not so sure.

My "Unpopular" Opinion
Here's where I might lose some of you. Buckle up! I think it feels like six.
I know, I know. IMDb says five. Wikipedia says five. Everyone and their grandma says five. But hear me out.
Think about it. The first episode sets the scene. Paul Spector is introduced. Stella Gibson arrives.

The next few episodes build suspense. We get closer to understanding both characters. The tension ratchets up! Each episode felt dense.
Then comes the "finale." Except...does it truly feel like a finale? Doesn't it leave you wanting more? Like a setup for something bigger?
It does, right? That’s because there's a whole other season! Maybe that’s why my brain insists on an extra episode.
It's like the first season is really just the first half of a story. A prolonged introduction. It begs for more.

The Case For An Extra Episode... In My Head
Maybe I'm experiencing some kind of "episode inflation." Has anyone else felt this way?
Perhaps it’s because each episode felt so long. Intense staring contests between Gillian Anderson and the camera will do that. Makes time warp!
Or maybe I just binged it too fast. Time became meaningless, the episodes blend. Who knows!
Regardless, the ending of that "fifth" episode felt more like a mid-season cliffhanger. It’s like it was begging for one more hour of dread and detective work.

Don’t get me wrong; those five episodes are amazing. Perfectly crafted. Addictive.
But still...six just feels right. A nice, even, slightly-obsessive-maybe number.
Am I Alone In This?
So, tell me. Am I completely off my rocker here? Does anyone else remember The Fall Season 1 feeling like six episodes?
Or am I just desperately trying to rewrite television history in my head? It's possible. I admit it.

Maybe my brain is making up for not having enough episodes. Who am I kidding?
Even if I'm wrong, I'm standing by my slightly-delusional assessment. Season 1 was fantastic, regardless of the exact count.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I'm off to rewatch it. Maybe this time, I'll count seven! Or maybe eight? The possibilities are endless!
Just kidding. Probably. Maybe. Okay, five. But in my heart? Six.
